Message: i have a 4.7 i took the curved plastic pipe off the front of the air box and cut the hole a little bigger. the air flow is right through the front grill to the box i dont have any plastic shield. just the ac pipes block it a bit other wise a direct shot to the box. my truck seems to have a bit more pep. waiting for k&n air kit for the 4.7. i also just put in the autolites 3923 last night can't wait to go for a ride today i will let ya all know.

Message: Tony,
I did inda the same thing. But I took it a little further. I took the old Rotozip and cut 2 large areas out on each side of the box and one in the rear opposite where the snorkel was. Then I took a 3 inch rubber 90 ($10) and clamped it onto the TB in place of the stock air hat. Then I took a 4 inch long piece of 3 inch PVC and connected the 90 to the stock flex hose coming from the air box. Cant even see the pvc. Going to replace the flex hose with a straight piece of the same materia as the 90 soon. I have a drop in K&N filter in the air box. Air flow is greatly increased. I know its not quite as good as a Z-tube but for $10, not counting the K&N, it is a very nice power increase for the money.
