If you remove three quarts of 50/50 at the start of summer and replace it with water (and reverse in fall) how much cooler would the truck run? This would be around 38% mixture!

Your truck would over heat in the summer and freeze up in the winter.

Why dont you just run 100%? It's not that much more expensive. You already have the $20,00 Dak, so spend $10 more bucks on another bottle of antifreeze.

You don't want to run too little mnixture of a good anti freeze. Straight water does not cool any better, if not worse, and it can corrode your pump, water jackets, etc faster.

Actually, 100% water cools better than any % water/antifreeze......That is a fact.

However, do NOT do this unless you hate your engine and cooling/heating components!!

I change my coolant twice per year, in the summer I run 60% distilled water, 40% Zerex G-05 and 1 bottle of Red Line Water Wetter.

In the winter I run 50/50 with 1 bottle of Water wetter.

I live in the So Cal high desert, it gets 110* in the summer and no colder than 25* in the winter.

Antifreeze is also Anti Boil
= higher temp before vapourizing
= better protection of High heat areas
of engine..................
Water , distilled or otherwise Can NOT do it..

run straight water without any waterpump lube in it to lube the pump seals and your water pump, in most cases, will need to be replaced in just a few months.

Water transfers heat better than Anti-freeze(coolant)-- period.
In a PRESSURIZED system (Even in extreme depths of the ocean) water can be superheated. Pressure is what raises waters boiling point. So even in the hottest part of the cooling system the water will not boil away, it will simply become superheated and transfer that heat energy to the surrounding molecules of water.

If only water is used though, it will deteriorate any aluminum in the system as well as shaft seals and bearings.

Bowtie is right.

Under pressure it does not boil at 212 degrees. Water ONLY boils at 212 at atmospheric pressure at sea level. In higher altitude areas it can boil lower at like 208, etc depending on the atmospheric pressure.

In the coolant system under higher pressure it will not boil until 220 or even higher.

Pressure cookers do the same thing when cooking food. You can heat the water to over 212 without boiling.

Pull enough of a vacuum on water and it can boil at say around 40 degrees for example.

thanks
