Subject: AC not used but LOTS of WATER in Cab???? IP: Logged
Message: I have a '00 CC and she really gives me no problem other than the leak in the cab. I dont use my AC but I have had consistantly H2O under(sometimes on top of) the carpet. It started on the passager side and now since my spring cleaning I NOW notice that the carpet in fully saturated in water and I need to replace the whole carpet.
Where should I look to waterproof the cab(keep in mind that I dont use my AC, so I dont have that drain situation) and what is the absolute best method. I dont believe in silicone, I use it daily for shower enclosures and they are crap. What is second to welding the joints that were not finished in the joint connections? I thought epoxy but what brand is the best???
I dont want to ruin my brand new carpet that I need to put in there now. Oh, Who sells the best carpet replacement that is closest to the factory form and ply? I found a site Stockinteriors.com, are they the best. They seem to have what I need as for a perfect replacement.
What should I do to elimate H2O from my BABY????

Message: The evaporator works whenever you use the defroster to clear your windshield. There is a little drain for the A/C in the firewall that is probably plugged letting the water accumulate and run down under your carpet.

Message: Could be a bad seal between the body and the door seal, or to the windshield.

Message: Water in floorboard...Been there done that!
Your water is most likely coming from either a bad windshield seal (top outer corners is where the water enter, I filled the openings in the corners using some silicone and my water leaks stopped immediately)
or A/C evaporator drain located on the passenger side in the firewall where the evaporator drains (that water you see dripping below your truck on a hot day while the A/C is running). You can get a rubber turn down tube from your dealer for a few bucks and RTV it onto the tube. This prevents that water from being blown back while driving down the road.

Message: The water does not have any coolant in it does it? Cause my Heater core sprung a leak and drained right where you are talking about. I'm sure you would smell the difference though.

Message: No it's just water. As for sealing the windshield you should urethane sealant. I am a glass guy and I know that silicone wont do jack s**t. What I would like to know is what would be the best sealant for the body joints inside the cab?? You know where the welds dont add up to par. You'd figure that the dodge vehicles would be "according to Hoyle", but I guess that they had some retards at the factory doing our series trucks.
But anyway, what should I use that will be the best other than finishing the welds myself????

Message: I have a 2004 Dodge dakota that I just bought because a brand new jeep I just bought leaked and I gave it back. Now this dakota is soaked on the drivers side and the windshield is not leaking. Could it be the rear window sela and where are these bad body welds in the cab that I should look for ???

Message: Had the same problem on my 01 QC. Under the carpet onthe passenger side floor was a 1" puddle of water. The leak ended up coming from the cab fresh air inlet on the firewall on the passenger side. The seal for this plastic vent is foam, which doesn't really keep water out. I used a good amount of silicone to seal it up. You will have to remove the wiper arms, and plastic cowl cover to gain acess to it. Unfortunately from there it does not give you direct access, by the time you are done, your right arm will be covered in scratches.
Here is a link that talks about it.

Message: Water Logged another place to check is to be sure the drains from the cowl vent are open to the fender wells. usually they are plugged with leaves, sticks and dirt that gets sprayed up from the tires and down the cowl vent, so when it fills up water winds up going in the air intake for the A/C box which the drain cant handle. take the wiper arms and cowl vent cover off, put the hose in and see if it's clear , check the rear fender splash shields too. remember even if the a/c box drain is clear it cant handle thewater from the cowl and will come out the lowest duct first when the box fills up which is the center heater vent on the trans hump filling the floor.

Message: Thanks for the advice. Last night I took out the carpet, console, seats and put the the seats back in and took it to a high pressure car wash, it looks like the water is running down the corner between the firewall and kickplate area on both driver and passenger side I can even see the water coming down the emegency brake cable on the driverside any more info and I'll sure return the favor if I ever hit the lottery.
