Subject: Auto Trans Fluid?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 46RE transmission behind the 5.9L motor in a 2000 Durango that was built by PATC (http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm) with all the goodies available. I also added a Mag-Hytec pan and a temperature gauge. All this was done after the stock transmission died on me (post warranty, of course).

While towing my Jeep I saw the temperature get up 210, which had me a little worried. The Mag-Hytec website says that at 215, transmission life is reduced to 25K miles! First of all, should I be worried? Secondly, is there a fluid that would help to lower my operating temp and make this transmission last a little longer? Neither PATC or the shop that installed it for me had any recommendation. They just said to run "standard" fluid.

A cooler first , especially if you are going to do much " towing " or Hard driving..
After that - synthetic - probably Amsoil would also extend life..

A better cooler or heat exchanger is a must. Don't change enything else until you've done that. Since you had a max goodie rebuild done, I'm surprised the builder didn't recommend one.

As for fluid, use whatever the rebuilder tells you to.
