Subject: Torsion Bar Lift Adjustment IP: Logged
Message: I will be getting new tires in about two months. I was thinking of doing the torsion bar lift now. Is there any problem doing it now and waiting to get the front end aligned when I get my new tires? Thanks

Message: if you crank your torsion bars to lift the front end of your truck, you should get an alignment right away. Your truck may seem fine, but it will change your camber angle and may toe in your tires slightly. This will put some added stress on the front end suspension components and cause your tires to wear unevenly

Message: I just did the torsion bar lift over chrismas in conjuntion with some larger tires.
After speeking to my alignment guy (about the same question) he told me that most of the wear would be to the tires but it can make it more difficult to get a "perfect allignment" (added stress)
Moral of story, less than a week; go for it.

Message: I did mine. 2 inches.
Been fine and I still haven't made it in for an alignment. But i don't drive my Dakota for work so it's no big deal. Funny thing is it drives BETTER now when I'm towing and it also is a LOT more stiffer when going off road. Which is why I lifted it. I was tired of smacking the bottom of the suspension on the pig.

Message: I lifted mine by about 1.5 inches well over a year ago. As the previous poster's said, it will stiffen the ride a bit (not bad though). Another benefit for me was that the front-end dive during hard braking was reduced, so the rear anti-lock didn't engage quite so quickly.
I adjusted mine without raising the truck,,, but be ready to use some muscle, a good breaker bar, and a 3 foot cheater pipe on the breaker bar. Or make it easy and raise it first. The benefit of not raising the truck is that you don't need to raise, adjust, lower, measure, raise, .... to get it lifted evenly. Just adjust, measure, adjust, ...
Also, it helps to mark the adjusting bolt so you know how far you've turned it each adjust cycle.

Message: i lifted my 2001 dodge dakota with a 3 inch body lift and a 3 inch suspention lift by buying aftermarket torsion bar keys and jacked up the front end three more inches. my local mechanic that went to do an alienment for me said he couldnt do it because there was no adjustment left for the camber. he talked about maybe they make a camber kit for my truck but im unabled to find one whats my next step?

Message: take some of the 'lift' (adjustment) out of the front end. Sounds like your torsion bars are adjusted to the point you are in constant contact with the upper control arms. If that is the case, that is why he cannot adjust the camber. He should have been able to (explain) show you that on your rig.

Message: Ok so I'm lookin for some help here,
I got me a 2004 Dak 4x4 SXT with the 4.7 v8 magnum and the
quadcab.
This is my first truck or vehicle for that fact and like all of you
here I'm looking how to adjust the t-bar, i wanna crank mine up
and add shackles in the rear, I was also thinking bout doing a
3 in body lift (the only lift that's made for the2003-2004 models
cause of a change in the front brake set-up... I think) and
maybe add aftermarket torsion keys in the front, now I been
under the truck a lot lately I did the hubs, front axles,
upper/lower b- joints and the tie rods and I diddnt notice the
"adjustment bolt" for the t- bar, anyone with any knowledge on
the 2004 model specificly please lemme know and also if
you've got comments on my plans for jackin her up,
Thanks John

Message: Traditionally, the torsion bar adjusting bolt is located at the lower control arm, right where the bar anchors into it. Follow the bar to the control arm, you should see the bolt. It's pointed upward.
