Message: Why be a member? Before I go and spend 30 bucks, what is it that members get that would be worth 30 bucks? All these amsoil guys saying that they are sponsors of this sight. Well obviously thats a scamm, right of the bat. I only make 10$ an hour working for RCI((if anyone heard of the company)) and well I spend all my money on my truck and gas. I aint no mechanic, so I spend even more $$$. I wanna learn as much as I can and I`m willing to pay but not to these amsoil nutfcks..

Message: Well because they say they are the almighty sponsors of this sight. I like this sight. Its given me a lot of info and I`m trying to find out why I should pay to be a member and so far all I`ve gotten is one of those "trying to be smart" comments. I would really like to know the benefits of being a member.

Message: Keeping a site running is more expensive than you may think. The amount of paying members aren't enough to pay for everything. Some businesses sponsor, or give us help keeping us on the air. So we owe them a doubt of gratitude as well as all the paying members who make this all possible. The Amsoil man has been quite helpful and he doesn't push his products on everyone. So you see these "almighty sponsors" make it possible for us to be here.

Message: The site is very expensive to run. Memberships and sponsors help pay for most of it, I personally pay for the rest. I enjoy doing it for you guys so you continue to help eachother save enormous amounts of cash on your dakotas. I cant say that I havent saved a lot myself from everyone's input as well. Thanks guys!
Joe, If you like the site... You can see what you get for membership here: http://www.dodgedakota.net/members/benefits.htm That is in addition to help fund the site and keep it going for yourself and others to use.

Message: Being a member is great!! You get to post in the member's only area(s) and you get a profile with a nice pic of your truck. Also, you feel good about helping mark run this site (it seems to be getting faster lately)
And no one else can post under your name, and ruin your reputation!!!!!

Message: You work for RCI and you accuse others of scamming ? Take what RCI charges to "own" a one week vacation spot, and multiply that times 52 to find out what is really being charged for that property ? Would you pay that ? Then fees get tacked on top of that. Yes, we've heard of Resort Condominiums International. Talk about inflated prices...

Message: Mark,
I think he means why not make all the forums members only not just a few of em. While I do agree that it would quickly end most of the trolling, I think it would be difficult to keep the site running due to lack of use. Most people won't go somewhere and pay $30 for a membership unless they've used it and think it's worth the money. Now something that might help would be requiring all users to register using a valid e-mail address (for registration confirmation). Then the trolls would have to either submit their own email addy which wouldn't make them nearly as anonymous or they'd have to take the time to create and use a false address. I know it wouldn't completely end the trolling, but it'd prolly help a lot. So to sum it up... my idea: Have everyone be required to register. Registration is free, and the only thing the poster gets is a registered nickname and the same features as the free posters currently get. Then you still got the $30/yr membership which gets you all the cool features us members get including the members only boards which still wouldn't be able to be accessed by the registered posters. Or something like that...

My .02
I would not hesitate to state that everyone visiting this site has saved far more than the $30 per year that it costs to be a member. Why not throw some of that savings "back into the pot" to make sure this site does not go the way of the Dinosaurs.
Reasons that I am a Sponsor/Advertiser on a Dodge Dakota Truck Website:
1) Mark (site owner) and I work at the same firm in New Jersey.
2) My cousin owns a Dodge Dealership in Georgia.
3) My Bro-In-Law owns a Dodge/Jeep/Ferrari/Maserati Dealership in England.
4) I believe in Amsoil --- the product I represent --- and believe that all of your components that require fluids will perform better and last longer using Amsoil.
I have owned ... and I have driven (and been in the garage with) many Dakota's, Durango's, Ram's, etc., etc., and have owned Dodge Trucks and Dodge Vans in the past.

Message: Unfortunately the software isnt written to allow that. Its all or none... and only one moderator. Way back when, I didnt expect this site to get so popular. It started out as just a personal homepage of mine with a picture of my dakota on one secton. It started getting a lot of traffic so I went with it. I'd have to quit my day job in order to do all I want with this site but I wont be doing that any time in the next week so things will get done, but slowly. My next step will be making a new server to run it faster. Regular Joe: since you do my accounting, that will knock off $1000 to $1500.

Message: I did a full tuneup on my truck with help/advice from the people on this site, and i did an oil change for the first time myself. While DIY oil changes don't really save you money (just better stuff for same $$), I figure I saved around $300 doing the tuneup myself rather than the dealer.
$300 - $30(for a membership) = $270 net savings from this site. (and thats just from a tuneup!)
if i had only saved a couple bucks, i prolly wouldn't have joined, but come on - $30 to help keep a site running that can save me that much $$ is a good deal.
and i get to put that crazy dude's face under my name!

Message: Mark, how'd you get so many visitors?! I have created a few sites and all the hits on the counter are from me or the family members who don't want me to feel bad...lol.
I too have saved a ton of money on this site. I have yet to have a problem with my dak, but it's nice to be able to research mods without having to experiment as much:) I definitely have saved every cent spent on my membership, though the main reason that pushed me into signing up was some fool kept posting some pretty rude remarks using my name (and email address checked to send me an email for every reply posted). I don't regret it one bit though.
