Subject: Tire Recommendation Needed IP: Logged
Message: The original Goodyears on my 02 SLT+ CC 4x2 are getting worn and I'll need to replace them fairly soon probably. I'd like to go with a wider tire for a meatier look, yet I want to (more or less) retain the factory ride height (i.e. no ultra-low-profile tires, as I can't afford new rims).
So any suggestions as to size and brand (btw, it's got the 16x8 factory alloy wheels).
Thanks!!!

Should be about the same height as stock but fat as hell. :)

Message: Thanks for the info Jeff.
295/50-16s would be meaty as all heck that's for sure... but would they be too wide for use on the front wheels? Or would they be okay?
Thanks!

Message: 295's are a REALLY bad idea unless its on an R/T. I have 275/55/R17 R/T rims on my '00 SLT 4x2 and the tire sticks out just a tiny amount past the body. Unless you put a body kit around the wheel wells, 295's will look stupid sticking out the sides of your Dak's body.

Message: For brand/type, it all depends on what you're going to do with it.
I drive mostly dry roads, with some rain, snow, ice once in a while. Some light off roading, but nothing dramatic. I recently installed a set of Michelin LTX M/S, stock size.
Great tire. Quiet and responsive on the highway, stands up to a heavy load, corners very well. I got cought in a heavy snow storm in SE CO last Jan. Very heavy snow, lots of ice. Tires had grip like there was no tomorrow, never had any problems at all. I'm very happy with them.

Message: dont listen to socalslt. The r/t rims make your tires stick out, not the tires themselves. Why do you think they put flares on the r/t? 295's would be sweet on your truck, and they should work good on the front too. I have 275's and it is fine. what is 2 cm?

Those tires look nice, BUT they are intended for cars. Does it make a difference?

Message: and says, have Radial T/A's on my Gen 3 and 45,000 miles on them with no problem, even hauled 1400 lb loads and pulled a trailer, however, due to the rubber hardening with age, they are getting very slippery when wet.
