Message: The water pump went out on my '97 Dakota with a 3.9
V6. The places I have called to get it fixied have been
crazy but I can get a new water pump from Autozone for
a good price. Does anyone know how hard it is to put
one in?

Message: It's not technically difficult. But it is time consuming. Everything has to come off the front of the engine - alt, A/C, P/S, etc. That's why labor costs are so high.
If you're reasonably competent and have the time, you can do it. And you don't need any special tools, either.

Message: i got my water pump new from o'rellies auto
parts for 65 bucks not a bad price it sucked
changing it out though u dont have to take off
all the a/c and stuff just the shroud and fan
which was alittle easier said then done but
what really sucked was takin off that little hose
on the top the engineer at dodge must of been
on crack when he designed that setup! but all
in all not that difficult of job just really time
consuming especially cleaning off mounts to
put on the new water pump
