Go with 20% and you shouldn't get harassed. I have factory tint plus limo tint on top of that and it's nice and dark.

I would do it with some kind of paneling and have an upholstery
shop cover it with fabric or diamond pleated vinyl for a custom
"LIMO" type look; you could install a window wherever you
wanted.

I love how this board brings out the best in people! For your info JFH: I ordered a 03, 5.9, 4x4 QC last year and paid cost plus tax etc, $27,412. My son got a new 04 Ranger 4.0L, AC, 4x4, SC - out the door for $15,023.65. Now this Ranger, that cost over $12,000 less than I paid for mine, has better headlights, better seats, more expensive Wrangler Radials and better looking wheels than any Dak that ever came off the assembly line! Oh yeah James, his starting salary at Ingesoll-Rand: $50,040!

Most peeps on this board are not a$$holes Sam. However, I'm a little disappointed in your statement that the Ranger has "better" equipment than our daks, especially since you ordered a dak and not a ranger. On the other hand, I do agree with you...i have the leather seats in my dak and they suck. As I'm sure you know, there are always trade-offs.
As far as you sons wage...good for him. Hard work always pays off! Happy four wheelin'.

Hey Sam, can that Ranger tow or haul as much as your Dakota with the 5.9L? Does that Ranger have even CLOSE to the amount of room that your Dakota Quad Cab has? Like Judd said, trade-offs. The seat comfort thing is a personal preference choice. The wheels? Again preference, but who the hell ever bought a vehicle over a different brand because the wheels or tires were better? But hey, to each his own. And look at the bright side, you saved $12k when it's time to buy a new vehicle because you learned that you like a Ranger better. Sure it was an expensive lesson for you but most worth learning are.. :)

I made the comment because this is a Dakota site, we have an off-topic board to talk about those other vehicles. If your son is making such great money, (I make quite a bit more and I'm only 21) why doesn't he go take it somewhere and have them tint it? I wasn't trying to get into an argument over this, but you seem to think people are out to get you. I was stating my opinion. I don't like ANY Fords, and have been saying that since I was 10. Just said if I had one I won't want anyone to know.

To answer your question. Take it somewhere if you've never tinted yourself before. It's not as easy as it looks. My friend tried his, what a mess. Factory tint is usually 20-35% Look in my profile, and you'll see my truck, I have 15% on the side windows, and 2-1/2% on the rear. What color is the ranger, because that will play a big part in how dark will look good.

I've got to jump in here. 1st: Limo tint it. period. If he gets stopped, take it down a notch. 2nd: As if ANY Ford came from the factory with better looking wheels than a Dodge, any Dodge esp Dakota vs. Ranger and esp an R/T! (think of the chrome R/T wheels) two words; dream on.
3rd: If he makes 50K and lives at home WTF is he doing buying a 15K POS? He ought to be buying a freakin' full size extra everything before he ends up married with kids and a mortgage. My $0.02

Shops around here in PA won't do it any more! There weren't any rangers on the lot with the privacy glass. He doesn't live at home, who ever said he did? He has college loans to pay back so I talked him out of the $25,000 tacoma he almost bought. Hey, it was $15,023 out the door! $20,625 sticker, less 3K rebate, dealer was doubling the rebate, plus another $400 college rebate. Plus they nocked of another $125. Is it as much truck as my loaded Dak? No! For the money is it a better value? Hell yes! And whether anyone wants to admit it or not, there are a whole bunch of better features on this truck, from the tow hooks to the projector lights, that come standard! All I wanted to know was if anyone had any recommendations for tinting! I post Dak stuff on here all the time and read lots of general auto questions, which is all this was! What is wrong with some of you?

As for better value, time will tell.

WTF!?!? a ranger, uh, yeah. okay... I bought my 01 R/T with a 60K warranty for 17K, and would be willing to compare my service records to his, bet his will be in the shop more, doesn't look as good, ride as good, or roast mustangs like mine. mine already had FACTORY tint. any ranger I've had the displeasure of riding in sucked, had shi#y seats, and no leg room. Let alone the compartment storage space. I'd be willing to pit my R/T aggainst his ride any day, in any type of performance....

BTW, if he's "doing so well" earning 50K, why does daddy dearest have to settle his problems?

And it's actualy Mazda that Ford shares the Ranger with, not Toyota.

How can you even compare a Ranger with the 4.0 V6 with a Dak R/T with the 5.9 in it? Around here the Ranger with the 3.0 is 20,000 and the Dak with the 3.9 is 21,200. I love the Dakotas don't get me wrong, but Dodge does have a load of problems with the trannys as well as every make and model have their problems (Dodge, Chevy, and Ford.) Please get off the FORD bashing. As far as myself, i'd never try installing tint myself....I know i'd mess it all up!
