Subject: AC vs cooler engine compartment! IP: Logged
Message: Did an experiment this morning. At 52 degrees and vent fan on high, I drove 10 miles and then let the engine idle for five minutes, first with the gasket at the rear of the engine compartment installed and then with it removed. At 50-60 mph there was no difference in duct temp (67), however, at idle 84 vs over 100. I had previously removed about a six inch piece below the cowl section where the cowl vent is solid. After this experiment, I put it all back on!

Message: Doesn't that prove how much heat it's letting out of the back of the engine compartment?

Message: Sure does, however, with summer just around the corner I'll want my AC at peak efficiency. Think I'm going to a 180 stat for this 03, 5.9, QC 4x4!

Message: Doesn't the AC just circulate the inside air to cool it? I thought it only took in outside air in the vent position. If that's the case then it shouldn't make any difference on inside temps.
