Mine has ten bolts so does that make it a 8.25 then. I also herd all 4.7L had the 9.25.

The 8.25's were beefed up considerably and phased in starting late '96 for the '97 model year. Still not as stout as the 9.25, but better than the prior version.

yes, went from 27 to 29 spline, and the axles are actually thicker at the inner bearing area, same diameter at outer bearing area, tho. I have some of each and can provide actual dimensions if you need to know that stuff.

thanks for your help. The reason I want to know is I want to buy a chrome rearend cover and I needed to know the size. Guess I'll go with 8.25.
