Subject: ABS BRAKE LIGHT ON IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 dakota and the abs and brake light come on after you drive for awhile. It seems sometimes it comes on only when you are thruway driving (most of the time) and sometimes after you have been driving awhile and you just touch the brake pedal. Brakes are working fine. I have replaced the rear brakes and drums because they were out of round. Thought the light grabbing was setting off the light. But that wasnt it. And replaced rear speed sensor and brake light switch. Still did not fix. Also speedometer works fine from start to finsh, always did.Is there any special way I need to erase code on this 2000 dakota? I just disconnected the battery for 30 seconds.Maybe I dont even need to do that.Or after reading this anyone can you give me a test tip for something else or just some kind of tip? Any info would be great. Thanks.

Message: Well man, I'll have to say that this is almost a usual problem with the Dak's. Mine as well has the ABS light on all the time. Sure it might be annoying, but in all seriousness man...Ignore it. I haven't had any trouble with it, just did regular check ups and thus far no problems...Hope I helped ya! Tah tah.

Message: To reset , yes , disconnect neg of battery
and then turn ignition key on and then to start
for a few seconds , then off and reconnect batt.
- warning lights are not good things to have on

Message: This problem may be corrected by having the code reset with a scanner. This light can mean allot of things. You may have fixed it when you replaced the rear sensor but the code was not cleared.
I had this problem had it checked and it was the brake switch that set it off. All they did was clear the code and no repair and it has never come back.

Message: I own a 2002 Dakota and my ABS light was coming on but I was still under warranty. Turns out on the 02 model 4X4 that the ABS sensor can come off inside the rear differential in certain conditions...such as offroading. The mechanic told me extreme jarring will knock it right off. Here's the bad part. Its metal and the metal got ground up by all my gears causing metal contamination. Dodge had to take my rear differential apart and replace all the seals, bearings, tone rings etc etc. Over 16 parts and 5 hours of labor. The bill would have been over $800 if not under warranty. If your ABS light is on this MAY be the problem.

Message: Thanks alot Guys, I have got a lot of input so far from you guys(GREAT). I think I am going to try to erase code next. I may have fixed problem but light just still keeps popping on every now and then because fault code is still there. Any more good tips on how to erase code myself on a 2000 dakota. I also have a 94 dakota and taking battery cable off always worked after a repair on that. But I dont know if that will work on a 2000. Any good tips keep them coming.

Message: If I remember correctly some malfunction codes are hard codes that have to be cleared with a scanning tool and the soft codes can be cleared with the battery disconnect. I believe this was a hard code error.

Message: Just this morning I was backing the truck out the driveway when the brake and abs lights came on. I checked the fluid levels and they are fine. took it to work and noticed when I first applied the brakes it was fine. Then I noticed that the pedal would keep going down as if it were losing pressure. Please advise.

Message: I have 94 Dakota and it’s had the abs and brake light on since
I’ve bought the truck 7 months ago and I noticed it’s missing
the #4 abs fuse in the fuse box under the dash to the left of the
steering column, I looked in the owners manual and it said it
calls for a tan 5 amp fuse but on some websites it says it never
even came with an abs fuse but it always mentions them like
they do, do I buy one and put it on or just leave it alone, it wont
hurt anything to put one on just in case will it?
