Not true Matt4.7CC.

How about those 'stripped down" DVD players, etc?

Those stripped down DVD players, and everything else were already offered that way from the manufacturer. You could buy the same units elsewhere and pay more. I remember a guy telling me that a certain garage door opener was cheapened for sale at Wal-Mart. Being a curious fellow, I decided to look into whether or not the manufacturer was in fact marketing two different units with the same part number. It wasn't. What is dirt cheap, and shoddily constructed at one retailer, is the same for a big box retailer.

Are you tempted to think that a DVD player that costs less than the same unit elsewhere is actually built differently? Relax. If this were true, Consumer Reports would have trumpeted that fact to the world. And there would have been complaints and lawsuits due to fraud. This is a persistent rumor, and consumer advocacy groups are sent thousands of inquiries regarding this every week. There is, however, a problem with counterfeit products out there. AC Delco has considerable experience with this.

Steve,
you said:
"I have had guys tell me that Wix and NAPA Gold are the same because they "look alike". Just because they look alike does not make them identical."
so don't try to weasil out of:
"Slopehead, I did not discredit any manufacturer or supplier" as by the first comment that is exactly what you did!
Dr,D the wix and Napa gold and silver come off the same assy line, look again at them and you will see I am right. From a guy that crows about Wix and knocks Napa filters, since they are the same, you come off looking like a know nothing idiot. Of course the more times you post on here you make me wonder if you mother ever tought you to keep your mouth shut and have us wonder if you are an idiot then to open it and remove all doubt. Since you opened it and are just plain wrong, you prooved to me as to which you are.

Slopehead,

I stand by my comment. Just because the "casing" is the same --- that does not mean that the "media" is the same. Amsoil filters are BALDWIN / Hastings casings --- but in ONLY VERY FEW FILTERS is the media the same. ALL Amsoil filters use a high-tech blended filtration media composed of cellulose, synthetic and glass fibers, and are rated EXTREME SERVICE / EXTENDED DRAIN. Not all Baldwins use this media. Only the casing is the same.

Not all Dakotas are the same. Some V-6 some V-8.
