I have had my 4.7 2001 QC for about a month. I noticed the the OD is always on at startup. Since I live in Pittsburgh, which is a little hilly, this is a real pain in the neck. I have two questions...

( have as already checked in the manual but found nothing)

1. Does having the truck in OD all the time screw up the engine or tranny. I always thought that OD was for Highway / Flat driving or 45+ mph.

2. Does anyone know of a way to make sure the OD is off at startup?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Hit the button at the end of the shift lever, you should see a O/D off display on your panel. Hit it again, it toggles it back on.

I believe when shutting the engine off with O/D off, upon startup, it cycles back to on

I use O/D off when I'm in steady driving below 50MPH or in traffic...a little more fun for stop light launches also

I knew how to turn it on and off, but the "default" of ON at startup sucks for normal driving in a hilly region.

I am trying to find a way to change the default to OFF at startup

I think it may be a computer command that shuts the overdrive off. I'm pretty sure you're out of luck on this one.

Agree, it will always default to O/D on.

That is one of three checks I always do when starting out driving:

1)check that O/D is on (always is)

2)Gear shift is securely in D (it popped into 2nd once when doing 65 MPH, scared the hell out of me)

3)That I'm not in 4WD

Sorry, looks like there is nothing to do about O/D being on as a default.
