Message: I have a question for the gearheads.
I have a 1996 dakota 2wd with a 3.9. and a tick
Manual trans. My question is will a 318 or a 360 drop right in without major adjustments or not?
Also thinking about eliminating fuel injection computer and the whole nine yards.

Message: If you use a Magnum block, it'll fit the same mount points as the 3.9. LA 318/360 will need a crossmember to bolt their mounts to.

Message: Same bolt pattern for the tranny, but if you're gonna use the V6 tranny, ya need to get it rebuilt with all the goods....kevlar band, HD clutches, etc. The guys at Level 10 and JVX/Memphis Performance can fix you up...for a price. The heavier A518 will hold up better with less beefing.

Message: Alright thanks. One more question. I found a 1995 5.9 360 here in michigan but they told me that the computer and wiring harness is different if I change to a V-8? That didn't sound right to me but I'm having doubt's now. Help!!!! How old of a magnum block can I go with the same mount?

Message: The computer is different, but the harness should only differ in that the V8 harness will have 2 more wires for 2 more injectors. The big difference is 1995 was the last year for OBDI computer/emissions systems. In 1996, it became OBDII, and that's a mess. The pin-outs are different because the computer was redesigned, but you could do some splicing and use the '95 computer. All Magnums 1992 and up 318/ 1993 and up 360 have the same mounting points.

Message: I have a 1992 dodge dakota 2-wheel drive with a 3.9 v6 magnum automatic trans. I bought a 1995 dodge dakota 4x4 totalled. It has a 318 magnum. I took the 318 magnum and put it in the 1992 and used the wiring harness and computer from the 1995. On the passenger side there are wires coming out of the passenger side firewall up to the body mod. Now the 1995 has a plug comin off of that harness. When I tried to start the truck ... I have NO fire... NO fuel and the headlights and tail lights won't work either. Do I need a wiring harness from a 1992 or 1993 model? Or is there something I could do with the v6 harness? If so what?

Message: Sounds like the ASD is not functioning properly. This may be due to a bad ground, malfunctioning PCM (which activates/deactivates the ASD ground), or a bad ASD. The thing is, the Auto Shut Down relay is on the driver side, located in the power distribution center. If this relay is not working, the fuel injectors, ignition, and various other electrical components will not be energized. I see three wiring pigtails coming out of a single point near the PCM. One is for day-running lamps, one is for the front wheel ABS sensor, and the third is a ground wire that connects at a point in the upper inner passenger fender area very close to the top of the air conditioning freon filter drier assembly.
If that's all there, I'd look into getting that PCM tested, especially if the ASD is the one from your truck (since it was working properly before the swap).

Message: If your useing a NV-3500 then keep it. If you want to keep shifting your own gears then look for a NV-4500 HD in the junk yard.
