I am looking to change out the factory speakers in my 2001 Dakota 4x4 Club Cab. I would like to know how to get the panels off in the rear of the cab to get the factory speakers out and the new speakers in. Can someone let me know how to do that and if someone has done this what kind of speakers are they putting in the truck? I am thinking of Infinity speakers now. Drop me a line at irondoor33@yahoo.com Thank you...Dave

I did it and it isnt as hard as it looks. You need to take off the seat belts first and then the door sill trim(pops off) then the panels just pop out. They are held in with plastic pins.
I used Rockfor Fosgate 6 1/2 " speakers and I am very happy with them

If you go to Crutchfield.com for the speakers, i think they send detailed instructions for your specific truck

good luck..

I have few questions, my first is are the Infinity Kappa 63.3I speakers a good choice for speaker and if not what are some good ones? Also I was desiding on weather or not to put component speakers in also because I dont have the money put subs in right now. If components are a good idea what kinds are the best for under $300, I was looking at the Infintiy Kappa components but they are a bit pricey. My last question is kinda dumb but im new to this so, is it ok to mix brands like having Infinity in front and Cerwin Vega in back. Thank you for all your help.

Whatever speakers you wanna run is up to you bro, it doesn't matter if you mix them. Try Infinity Reference components, $199 at my circuit city

Take it from me and alot of other guys here...Componants are the way to go. The way that Dodge designed the front speaker locations, u lose all of your highs in the floor. I went with Pioneers in my front..They only cost me 180 at Crutchfield and in a recent Car Audio mag they ran a test on 4 brands in the 200-300 price range and the Pioneers scored very well...I started out with Rockford Fosgate coax speaks in the front doors and while they were an improvement over stock I wasnt happy..The componants are your best bet no matter what brand u buy.

Here is a link to the speaks:

I finally just got done putting in those exact same Pioneer components in my truck. MUCH better than the stock speakers and I'm just running the components off my Pioneer head-unit. Driver side took me almost 3hrs, passenger side only an 1hr. And I only spent $125 total for the speakers, brackets, and wiring harness to plug into the existing speaker harness.

I was taking my time to make sure I didn't screw anything up! Actually, most of the time was trying to find out why I had no sound after I hooked everything up. Turned out to be the wiring harness was made wrong. I was getting royally pi$$ed thinking that the speakers didn't work.

question about replacing speakers
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 99 dakota club cab and am looking into replacing the speakers. I just wanted to verify what size speakers i need. 6 1/2 in the front and 5 1/4 in the back? If i go with a component system should I just get the one component system for the front and then just install 2 speakers in the back?

Do 6X9s fit in the rear speaker locations?
Have any of you run a high/low converter to use an amp without changing out the stock HU?
Thanks,
R/Trottmann

Sandman, not sure about the backs but the fronts are 6.75" oddballs. Pioneer makes a drop-in, saw them on sale at Best Butt today. Don't get the 6.5" ones that claim to fit, it leaves a nasty gap.

Hey guys I'm no expert on car audio but I have a 2001 dodge
Dakota sport and I wanted to use a hi to low converter
instead of changing the head unit. I got everything connected
perfectly, but where and how do you connect the converter to
the speakers? Detailed instructions would be greatly
appreciated! Thank you all.
