 Subject: Tailgate wont close

my tailgate wont close, and when i lift the handle it just lifts up but the latchs on the side of the tailgate wont move. If i try to slam it shut it wont lock in place.
does anyone know what the problem could be and how to fix it?

Maybe the rods have come loose from inside the gate and are no longer connected to the handle. Maybe everything is just binding up on you and needs to some grease to get going. Has this been a problem before?

got a 97, mechanicaly the same as a 99, never have such a problem due to the fact that I lubricate all moving parts on a monthly basis, maybe you should have too!

My tailgate would not close when the temp got to -10 degrees. When it warmed up I adjusted the pegs out a little. Seemed to fix it.
