Subject: Cruise Control IP: Logged
Message: I have an '87 Dakota V-6 automatic and the cruise
control does not work. It has not worked since I
bought it 2 years ago. Is there a common problem
with the cruise control on these? Is there something
simple I can check or is trouble shooting this a
major undertaking?
Any help greatly appreciated...

Message: to check is the vacuum hose running from the control unit to the manifold or carborator or whatever, if even a tiny pinprick in it the CC won't work. then check for fuse in fuse box being blown then the switch to engage and the switch on the brake pedal lever that disengages, if any bad CC won't work.then afterthat depending on year, either dedicated control box or PCM(on newer ones) could be bad.

Where might magnets for sensor be located to check
if they might be missing?

Message: Magnets will probably be located on the drive shaft or one of the axles. There should be a magnetic pickup located next to where the magnets pass near.
