Message: Hey all... Whats the best clutch you 5sp'ers have gone with? I have a 2000 4.7L 5sp and I'm needing a clutch change. Any feedback would be great! Thanks

Message: Definately the Centerforce Dual Friction. Mine's been going strong for 40K miles, almost 4x's longer than the factory clutch. You can get it at summit.

Message: A clutch is probably best left to a professional. Unless that is you know how to take off your transmission. They're kinda heavy if you were wondering.
Andy: Your factory clutch only lasted 10K? I've had the same clutch for 50K now and it feels like new. You must run your pretty hard.

Message: I have the dfc, and it handles everything i give it. It has never slipped once, but I have only had it for 7k miles. It is mostly a strip driven truck, and gets abused all the time. I had the factory clutch in it for 86000 miles before changing it out for this one. Most of that was driving hard, with a truck running in the high 13 sec range. If andy smoked his out in 10k he is a moron. truckperformance.com has pretty good prices.

Message: I blew it when I missed the 2-3 upshift and let the clutch out too soon before it was fully in gear and pretty much nuked the clutch disk. And no Terry I'm not a moron, I wasn't even hot-rodding it when it happened.
But I would avoid truckperformance.com like the plague. Out of an almost $1000 order I placed only one $250 item was sent to me, but was charged for everything else also. And everytime I called to ask where my stuff was they said it was on its way. Finally after two months they refunded me for what they never bothered to send me. Definatley go with Summit, even if they are more expensive.
bbyron2000, I don't know if they changed anything or not. You could try calling a couple dealers and asking if the factory clutch part # for a 2004 is the same as the one for a 2000.

Message: How do you fry a clutch by missing a shift? Even if you miss second on a very hard launch, the clutch will engage as normal. You might screw up your tranny, or over speed the engine, but you will not damage the clutch missing a gear one time.

Message: bbyron2000: I think that the clutch IS different for your 04. My stock clutch on my 03 was a 12", and I think the 2000/2001 setup is an 11" or 11.5", I dont remember which. Here is the pics from my t56 install show the stock 12"...
http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mofinwiley@sbcglobal.net/detail?.dir=/T-56+6speed+install&.dnm=ebc1.jpg
...and the smaller one that was SUPPOSED to fit the NV3500 in my dak
http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mofinwiley@sbcglobal.net/detail?.dir=/T-56+6speed+install&.dnm=86e9.jpg
now that I look at it it looks like an 11". Both pics were taken set in the SAME pressure plate.

Message: I agree that the Centerforce is a good clutch, as I put one in a Ranger a while back. However, be forewarned, it has hellacious grab. If it snows where you live, you can forget about easing it out to take off without wheelspin. It's a real pain on slippery roads. You will be able to bark the tires speedshifting into 3rd!

Message: The trans is simply amazing. The kit was not. The difficulty depends on your current setup.
I would not recommend it for an N/A truck unless you plan to go with at least 4.11 in the rear. 4.56's would probably be best. With the stock 3.92 setup I lost quite a bit of 1st gear power with the ratios in the t56. Once it gets up there though, it stays there, with minimal rpm drop between gears.
I have not redone my rearend yet because i am hoping to get around to putting a turbo on it this fall, in which case the 4.56's would just have the 4.7 spinning the tires constantly.
