Subject: You gotta see this monument to stupidity
IP: Logged

Message:

I was at the Home Depot tonight in San Francisco when i saw a full pallet of about 25 100 pound bags of cement on a forklift next to a old volvo station wagon. It never crossed my mind what they were about to do. I came out five minutes later and almost fell over laughing when i saw it. The pallet would not fit in the back hatch so they took off about 8 or 10 bags and put them in the back seat. Then they loaded the pallet in the back of the car with the fork lift. The car sagged so much the exhaust pipe was bent against the ground and the front tires were almost off the ground. And the wheels were tiled inwards bending the axle. There was a crowd starting to gather around just rolling on the floor laughing. I have seen pics of people doing this on joke websites but this was hard to believe it in person
I wish i had a better camera but i got these few shots with my camera phone.
enjoy

More proof that there are idiots out there, Volvo's are absolutely worhtless, and trucks are the way to go. If you had the numbers of bags and weight right, that is 2500 lbs, way beyond the payload capabilities of most 1/2 ton trucks, let alone a car.

Yeah I put 2000lbs of tile in the back of my truck not long ago. The suspension handled it fine but I thought the tires were gonna go. Even though I have better tires now I doubt I'll ever carry anything near that again.

People do that kind dumb stuff to their cars all the time though. I see the craziest stuff loaded into the back of and on the roofs of grocery getter vehicles. Crazy people.

Just because they have the space people don't worry about the weight. Kind of like the idiots that try to cram stuff into the overhead bins on the plane and wonder why the bin won't stay shut.

My favorite is the old bottomed out cadillac towing the 20ft+ boat down the highway or at the ramp. Watching a caddy trying to get traction up a ramp is great.

You think that's bad, I saw a newer C5 Vette Convertible towing a trailer with two big riding mowers on it.

You didn't happen to see that in Englewood, Fl. did you?

I saw that exact thing probably a year and a half ago. But actually it was The body style before the most current one. I think it was an LS1? I don't know my vettes.

Now that I'm trying to get a profile of the person who would actually pull such thing, James Lease come into mind. After all he did say he owned a station wagon.

If you think pulling a trailor with a Corvette is odd then be out on the look for a old man pulling a 25 ft silver campor rig up in the Santa Anna mountains.

Not to mention those people who like to haul 4x12 planks in there Honda Accord while taking out mail boxes, sign post and anything else that stands in there way.

I have to admit, I did something almost as stupid
NAH. Not even close. I was reroofing my house and went to Menard's to buy 40 squares of shingles. I had an F150 4X4 back then the guy on the forklift refused to put it in the back. I said give it a try. HE KNEW BETTER. I ended up making 2 trips home and the front end felt like I had no steering. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess Menard's hires smarter people than Home Depot

I read all this and just had to throw in my 2 cents of stuipdity...last week I had to haul some rock for a project at home...I had to take my 2000 R/T club cab to the quary... I weighed truck and trailer empty at 5700 Lbs. After I was loaded I weighed it again and to my suprise my little R/T weighed in at a WHOPING 11,320 Lbs. Who said that those R/T's only have a 2000 Lb towing capacity...She had no problem pulling it but I will never do that to her again. I just wish I would have taken a picture of it...

THat's pretty stupid. I saw a picture of a guy with a Golf that had decided to load like 10 or 12 sheets of plywood to the roof of his car........ the whole damn thing collapsed from the drivers door back to th bumper.!

Damn dude!

Last fall I loaded in about 2000+ Lbs into the back of my truck. It was like 30 bags of 80Lb cement and a electric cement mixer. So you do the math.

My poor 2003 4X4 sagged down a few inches in the back. It didn't look ANYTHING like that Volvo though.

I'll never do that again to by Dak either. Next time I need that much cement I'll unload my quads from the trailer and use the trailer!
The 4.7 sure pulls the weight well though :-P

I figured if that would have been that moron James Lease then instid of the bags being in the cabin of that car, you would have seen in SHOCK all those bags being tied up to the roof of the wagon and only holding up enough untill James hits a bump in the road causing all the bags to cave in on his @ss.

Even the 2wd 4.7L's will do a ton in the back but it's kinda freaky. Stearing was okay and so was acceleration but it just made me nervous.

Yea, I've done something stupid when it came to the Home Depot as well. We were landscaping the yard last summer and needed a crapload of landscaping bricks. We went to the Depot, and decided against loading up all the bricks on a flatbed and stacking them in the truck. We just had the guy put a ENTIRE pallet of them in the back of my Dakota which put it down pretty bad. I did get it home but got some new squeaks in the rear of my truck because of it :)

I see that every day. I'm a foreman in a lumberyard, and somepeople think they can haul anything. One time I made a 97ish 2wd f150 bend it's exhaust pipe and bumper hit the ground. Some guy wanted a skid of patio slabs ( 25 slabs @ 105-110lbs ea.) loaded in the back. What do I know right? his truck hauled that same load last week, he says. So I dropped it on with the forklift and it didn't stop till the ground made it.

You gotta understand that some customers won't except that their vehicle can't take it, the need to physically see it happen. Mind you that's tipical Home depot thinking that a volvo could take that weight.
