Message: I went to price remote starters for my truck and I was told that the cost to install it would almost double what I would pay for the actual remote start. I was looking at a $150 model and they said after install it would cost me like $300 for install and parts. Is there anywhere I can get a cheaper price for the install, this was circut city, i went there because i have a freind who works there and i thought i would get hooked up, i was wrong though. Anyone have any thoughts?

Message: I put a $50 bulldog remote starter in my wife Stratus about 3 to 4 years ago, it works O.K. but it does not have that far of range. I is NOT easy to install, I had a buddy that use to work at a place that installed them help/do it for me. Also if you plan on putting the remote locks on it also you will most likely have to buy a relay for it. I had an ADI system in my Ranger that I sold to get my Dak and I LOVED that system. IMO ADI is the only way to go but the price is around $300 or more installed. In other words SPEND THE $$$$ it is worth it.

Message: well brooks, i live in ontario and i had one put in my 2001 dak a few months ago. it was an autostart remote system. now, i have had a remote start on every vehicle i've had and this is the best by far. it was only $230.00 including tax from one of the best custom audio shops in the province. this thing starts from a mile away it seems. i started it one time from at least a block and a half from my truck not thinking it would work and it was runnin when i got there. so i had them take it out cause i just got an 04 dak and its goin in that one now.
good luck.

Message: Hi Brooks. I bought a remote starter from BJ's wholesale club. It said that it had long range(1000 ft). That was an understatement. After I installed it, I took a walk to find out just how far I could get. Well, I gave up and turned around after walking farther than I would ever dream of using it. I mean I must have walked a quarter mile and when I pushed the button, I could hear the horn toot. An option I turned off by the way. That horn tooting thing was annoying.
The starter only cost me $69.00 or so and I put it in my 1998 dakota myself. It WAS a LONG day. Lots of connections to make. Lots of skinnin my knuckles under the dash. But, I would do it again to save the money. I had the time to kill so why not.
Anyway if you have a BJ's club near you and are a member or know a member you might wanna check it out. Just remember, It's a LONG...LONG DAY! If your not too mechanically inclined you might wanna pay the extra to have it done for you.
BTW, I don't have any sort of chip or transponder in my ignition key, but if you do, this adds to the project because you then need a kit to bypass that system.
