I know this is really going to sound stupid but I got to ask any way. On my 97 3.9 there are vac. ports on both sides of the intake. Both are suppose to be plugged. The one on the pass. side in not and sucking air like crazy, the plug fell off and on to the intake. Simple fix is to plug the leak back. Now the problem. When I plug the port the truck will not idle and will shut off. Leave the plug off and the truck runs fine except it idles (in gear) about 500 rpm's.
I know this has nothing to do with it, but also the Cat. converter is rattling.

any ideas ?? Hints ??

I know you don't want to hear this but it is impossible in our universe with our laws of physics to leak vacuum. You have an area where a vacuum is present, not leaking.

I guess maybe next time I'll check with webster before I write another post. But for most people who do turn a wrench every so often, they do understand the concept of a vac. leak. If for some reason you didn't understand that let me put another way.

The the metal vac. port on the side of the intake SUCKS. Oh and to let you know, it you have water dripping from a hose, It's not really a leak it's just that water is present.

Sometimes these message boards are sooooo funny. I love to read post from people like Dr.Well PHD. It kinda sounds like , Oh yeah, Well mines bigger than yours!

Sounds like your computer has adjusted to the leak, and when you plug it, the computer is suddenly off in calibration. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes. Plug the port, reconnect the battery and start it up. The computer will need to re-learn things, so give it a little driving time to do so.

That's why I post at http://www.allpar.com - they don't allow flaming and abuse, which seems to be widespread here. Their posters are polite, professional, and offer more useful info. I was hoping to find that here.

the vacumm source on the left, or passenger side of your dak is were the pcv valve is supposed to be, yes you will run without the valve in place and yes you will stall if it is not present and the port is plugged, quit trying to circumvent the polution controls on your vehicle and replace the 8 dollar part that belongs there!
IT IS NOT A LEAK!

Just so you'll know,,,the Pcv is installed and it does connect to the passenger side but if you'll look a little closer you also see another port just below that. That is the one I'm talking about. My SLT with the 3.9 is the same as my R/T, different motors but the intake looks the same as far as those ports. 1 big port 1 small port on each side.
And yes I have already been told it's not a leak but it's just present.

But some nice folks have already helped me and seem to have solved the problem.
