Message: I have looked at that one.... its made of plastic. The plastic with flex too much with the bass and make it sound like crap. I was kinda hoping that someone has made a custom one .......

Message: Well actually, the MTX Thunderform sounds dayuum good in the Dak (I have one in my 99 CC right now).
Since it was specifically built for the vehicle and it conforms to the exact shape of the toolbox under the rear seats, it is quite possibly the best option out there.
I seriously doubt that you would find a wood enclosure that would sound as good as a Thunderform (you might, but I doubt it) since it is molded to take advantage of all the space you have under the seats.
Maybe you should listen to one before you make your decision, because if you decide that you want to build it yourself, you may save yourself some cash (depends on cost of materials and value of time spent to do it) but I doubt you will be able to fully take advantage of the convenience that a Thunderforms provides.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Message: While I agree with Darkfury about it being the best option, and it sounding great, you could get better.
BUT, you will lose your rear seats....you could buy a huge box or make one that will sound awsome but there are so many disadvantages to that...all in all, the thunderform is great. It sounds good, its hidden (no theives) and you can still use the back seats.

Message: I have the thunderform in my Dak. You all are right, its not the absolute best bass in the world. But all together, its the best you can put in the CC Dak without losing stock features. I like the sound of mine, and the plastic actually works very well as a box. Its density, not thickness, that determines whether a box will resonate. I once tried to build a box out of 1/2" plywood, what a disaster!! You can definitely do much better than the MTX speakers, I listened to a box with Rockford Fosgate speakers installed, and it sounds much better than mine. One other thing that helps is to get an unamplified box, rewire it for stereo and put a big amp on it. I did this with the MTX speakers, put 200 watts RMS to each speaker, and it sounds much better than the mono setup.

Message: if your wanting lots of bass dont even think about the thunderform. i had one in mine for about 6 months and pulled it out and went with six fosgate 12 in the extended cab part sounds great and it only goes up to my back glass.

Message: Well... when I made my original statement, I was going on the premise that you actually wanted to keep your backseats intact and only deal with the space under the seats...
If you are willing to forgo the rear seats, then yes, I agree with the others that building a custom box will be much better than buying a Thunderform.
I just figured that most folks buy their "extended" cab trucks to be practical/functional... there are many other vehicles that are better to set up an "all out killer ground pounder" in (that give you way more cubic foot space for building enclosures and amp racks).
If this was your idea, then please excuse the previous suggestion. However, if it was indeed your intent to keep the back seats functional, then I am gonna stick with my statement that the Thunderform (even unloaded and loaded) are still the BEST option.

Message: There is another option than going with the Thunderforms. JL Audio makes a stealth box that is made out of fiberglass, and fits under the seat like the Thunderform. It is designed for one 8" subwoofer. I don't own one, nor have I heard one. I do know JL Audio currently produces one of the better speakers out there. Maybe this could be an option for you.

Message: Not to knock JL Audio, but I really don't think that one 8" woofer is gonna beat up 2 10" woofers... no way!
And even if you found one that could, you could get an unloaded Thunderform and put 2 JL Audio 10s in the box... That would have to be twice as good... right? LOL

Message: True, and yes I've thought about doing just that. Brian did mention that he didn't want to go to the MTX due to the plastic design. Since JL audio designed their's out of glass, I'd thought I'd offer it up as a possible solution. I do know that the price tag for JL's box is pretty stiff, so I would certainly like to hear it before I would consider purchasing it.

Message: I custom built a sub box for two 8" Rockford Fosgate subs that fully and invisibly replaces that plastic thing that goes under the rear seats, AND left room for an amp between them, AND still have use of the seats. It is made of MDF. Basically I made two mirror-image boxes, one for each sub. They were cut to be the minimum possible mounting depth for the subs. That left them still a bit taller than the original plastic form, so to make up for the height I slightly angled the top of the boxes. That way the seats still sit flush on top of them. It was a pain to cut all those angles! Anyway then I connected the two boxes with a platform between them and added a few small pieces to fill all the gaps. Covered the whole thing with dark gray speaker box fabric, mounted the speakers in the boxes, and mounted the amp on that platform in the middle. It is thumpalicious! I listen to metal, so I turn the super-bass down low and the punch up high.

Dakota Quad Cab.
Looks almost stock. If I can get a 10" Rockford Fozgate P2 behind the one seat, a computer behind the other, and two amps under the two seats you can definitely find a way to get a sub in anything LOL!
Of course I DID have to make a few modifications to get it all to fit...
