Subject: Aftermarket guages IP: Logged
Message: I was just wondering if someone who has installed aftermarket guages could tell me which type, Mechanical or Electrical? and what type of wiring is involved? I plan on getting a single pillar guage pod, and going with an autometer guage, probably a water temp. guage or an air/fuel ratio guage. I have a 97 5.2 liter. I'm only doing it for the unique look that the guage pod gives you. I know many of you will bash me for not having any use for the guage, but it's my own personal taste that I care about.
97 5.2 liter 5spd. 3.55 LSD
Mods: K&N FIPK, JBA Headers,Crower 1.7 ratio roller rockers, Custom bent dual exhast with Dynomax bullet muffler, Hurst shifter, Many body mods...

Message: as far as type that is really a personal preference rather then anything else,
BEWARE the ham handed mechanic, I had a mechanical water temp on a car 20 years ago, took in in for a leaky manifold gasket under warranty, the moron cut the mechanical cable, then the idiot used an electrical "butt end connecter" to repair it. It cost the dealership 40 bucks to replace it.

Message: Why not put a gauge in there that's not in the factory dash, say a vac., trans temp., oil temp. Something usefull.

Message: Yeah, put a boost/vac gauge in. At least it will be entertaining to watch when you go up and down hills.
