 Subject: 1999 Dodge Dakota overdrive off

I've been having problem with my over drive off coming on, puting me in 3rd gear, I'm not towing,
this happend on long trips usually after driving 60 or 70 miles, If I pull over and shut the truck off , the over drive comes back , then after 4 or 5 miles .it shuts off the over drive and I'm back in 3rd gear, for the rest of the trip, this last trip my transmision temp light also came on. I get no codes on the computer, and up to now have not been able to come up with a solution , I've been to several dealer, with no sucess. any ideas would be welcome, the truck has 80,000 miles on it ., I've hd the truck for 5 year this just started a few months ago and is getting worst.

Sound like a similar problem to what I had a couple of years ago, but with mine it wouldn't drop into 1st either, even from a dead stop.
I allways wondered if it was somehow related to the coast feature of the cruise control (as I was using it quite a bit on that trip).
Turned out to be the trans controler (within the PCM) As the defective part, namely the PCM, was covered under the emission warranty, dealer replaced FOC, after having the trans pan off, replacing a solenoid or two and generaly wasting my time (while I was on vacation, no less).
