Subject: Ball Joint Replacement IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1999 Dakota Sport Pickup with 68,000 miles that has the Ball Joints worn out on it. I really think this is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed by the company. They need to get something done about this as they were manfactured incorrectly, as I have had to replace them and the control arms and front end alignment, I believe they need to reimburse anyone that has had this problem as my truck is in excellent shape!! lets get the recall on the ROAD!!!

Message: I also have a 99 and you don't need to replace the control arms, just the ball joints.

Message: Yeah, look under the dealer recall section of this site, and search for ball joints. You will find probably thousands of posts regarding the issue, as well as MOOG balljoint part numbers for your application. Keep in mind, if you plan on keeping your dak, this won't be the first time you will replace them. Next time though, you will have the ball joint part numbers, to save you some $$$.

Message: Hi pbxr I like your truck, yes I like my truck but some dingdong engineers doesnt know diddly about how to design something that doesnt ware out, and that is totaly the fault of Dodge and Chrysler Corporation. From now on I will check to see which vehicle has the highest rating and lowest amount of repair stats, when I trade, and I am not leaning towards Dodge. So if they want people to keep coming back they better improve there product.

Message: Improvement in one of the "big 3" car manufacturers is typically a new radical body design, or additions of sat. radio and on-star(chevy) to lure you in one direction or another.
That is why sites like this, and others like are a true benifit to owners like us.
btw thanks for the compliment on my dak.

Message: I have the same truck as Alan with about the same miles. I got all four ball joints replaced with moogs at NTB a few months ago. It took them about 1-2 hrs and cost me about $700. I kept the receipt in case a recall ever happens so I can get reimbursed. As I recall, the ball joint problem with these pickups is due to crappy chinese parts and not the design of the suspension. Then again I'm just a weekend mechanic so don't give me a hard time if that's incorrect. In my experience, all lines of automobiles have some sort of endemic problems. There's no golden hen out there. You just have to try to avoid the vehicles with problems that are catastrophic in nature.

Message: Alan,
I hate to disappoint you. But the reality of class action lawsuits is that the victims send a lawyer into semi-retirement for 10 years when he gets the $10,000,000 share of the settlement.
The victims will get a $20.00 gift certificate towards the replacement of bad ball joints with new bad ball joints at the nearest dealership.
