Subject: Clunk noise+hard start
IP: Logged

Message:
01 4.7l CC auto (sport edition) 29k miles, I sometimes get a
clunk noise at low rpm's around 20 mph. What is this? Also,
sometimes for no apparent reason, when I turn the truck
on, I have to feed it some gas or it hangs. Bad starter?

Thanks

When accelerating from a stop when the fuel tank is around the 3/4 full mark, fuel sloshing in the tank will make a noticable "clunk", almost like someone nudged your rear bumper. Baffle shortage; no real concern. You may consider new spark plugs. Bosch Platinum +4 4118's are my favorites, but the OEM Champions work well. Also, 2-3 gallons of 93 octane gas in a full tank of 87 may help the starting, as well as a bottle of STP concentrated injector cleaner (black bottle), and a cleaned and swabbed throttle body. If the engine is turning over then it's not your starter. If it's not getting enough fuel perhaps a pump going out or some blockage in the fuel lines? Clogged up "filter" in your tank? Maybe injectors or fuel rail?

might be your problem Al.

the gas tank "bump" only happens when I come to a stop.
