Subject: Weird electrical problem IP: Logged
Message: I am having a problem with my 2001 quad cab. The taillights, dash lights and the electric locks(unlock only) are out. Took it to the dealer and they replaced some headlight switch for 170 bucks. The car was fine for about 10 minutes until once again the lights etc went out.
Any idea what this might be. I am afraid the dealer is just gonna replace the whole damn electrical system if I take it back there for more work.

Message: Electrical problems are the worst to try to fiqure out. Sounds like you have a wire that is grounding out to the truck. What I suggest is inpsect your wiring starting from the taillights and work back to the firewall. I have found the most problem areas are under the truck where the wiring has go around a bend because the wiring is exposed to the elements and cracks then grounds to the frame. Under the dash is not so much a problem. On my truck I had a problem with reverse lights and signal lights going out, turns out I had a cracked wire by where the trialer lights pluged which shorting out to the frame. Hope this helps.

Message: Its an auto.
I took a look at the trailer wiring and it looks to be fine. I don't know where to start for the rest of the truck.

Message: I highly recommend getting a factory manual or even an aftermarket manual with a good wiring diagram in it if you don't want to take it back to the dealer. When multiple systems are affected simultaneously I suspect a bad ground.

Message: I got a recall notice for my 2001 Quad with a manual transmission. The clutch pedal may be rubbing on the wiring harness. It's listed as a fire hazard.

Message: I have a 99 Dodge Dakota 4×4. The previous
owner installed those led lights under the
dash and apparently didn't know what he
was doing. First, I want the lights gone.
But most importantly, The odometer,
speedometer, temperature and oil pressure
gauges just stopped working. The
abs, airbag,od off and fuel lights are all
on. I'm guessing this kid spliced into
something he shouldn't have. Any advice??
