Subject: Please Help Dakota Won't Start! IP: Logged
Message: Hi there guys, maybe you can help me out. I went to go
somewhere this afternoon in my truck(1997 Dodge Dakota
5.2L 84K) and when I tried to start it all I got was this
"clicking" sound. Sorry but that's the best way I can
describe it. Also my gauges like power flucuated(sp*) a lot
when I tried to start it.
I've kept up on maintence and within the last 200 miles
changed the oil. Any help, ideas, or suggestions is greatly
appreciated.
Thanks again,
punkjeebs

Message: Clicking sound to me means bad starter solenoid. Has it ever
done this before? Can you crank it a few times and get it to
start? Any fuses burned out? Got 12 volts at the battery?

Message: To another mark
1.) No, this is the first time it's ever done this.
2.) No, after 3 or 4 attempts lasting 2-3 seconds each the engine still didn't start.
3.) Wasn't able to check the fuses, but what should I look for besides any signs of a blown one.
4.) The battery indicator as I recall didn't get to the first line, so in essence it was closer to the red then green. Think it's the battery?

Message: When my Mopar battery went dead it didn't give me any warning at all. I went into the bank and came out 10 minutes later it was completely dead. It just clicked when I tried to start the truck.

Message: those little green lights on the battery only tell the health of the cell that it is connected to. therefore you have a 5/6 chance of another cell going dead, hence a no-start condition. try and get it jump started, and then replace the battery. also, fluid level has no bearing on the condition of the cell. the specific gravity of the electrolyte int he cell is how you tell how good the cell is. all the fluid level will tel you is whether or not the cell has run dry or not
