API. Mandatory huh,
hello go to their website if you want to use your brains.

"For consumers, API provides the API’s Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System (EOLCS). It is a voluntary licensing and certification program that authorizes engine oil marketers who meet specified requirements to use the API Engine Oil Quality Marks. These emblems go directly on each container of oil that retains the certification for and is there to help consumers identify quality engine oils for their gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles."

API is not a Gov. Agency that mandates oil testing.

API cert is voluntary. and runs you anywhere from $250,000 to around $1mil.

API cert yes, simply means you met the standard requirements of whichever standard you testing for.

mobil, penzoil, crap and more crap all use the same base only adding small amounts of various crap to make it their own. this allows them to all buy their base oil from company X which company X already got API Certified. thus allowing multiple companies to use the oil and not be subject to the API Cert cost.

don't forget amsoil was the first motor oil company with an API Certified synthetic oil. way back in 1972.

the fact that you all post without simply doing 20 min of simple research makes me wonder what is wrong with our education system.
-----------------------------------------

amsoil, rp, redline, and many others all have types of oil that are not api cert. THE REASON...

BECAUSE PEOPLE LOOKING FOR THE BEST OIL DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT API. BECAUSE THEY ARE SMART ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY DO RESEARCH.
.........................................

instead of calling mobil and asking if their formula x is api cert. (which is just stupid by the way)

why don't you call one of the other HIGH END COMPANIES and ask them why they are not API Certified? then maybe you can get some facts straight.

DID YOU ALL FORGET THAT AMSOIL WAS THE FIRST EVER OIL COMPANY WITH AN API APPROVED SYNTHETIC OIL?

WHEN WAS THIS AGAIN? OH THATS RIGHT 1972.

SHORTLY AFTER THEY REALIZED like all performance oil companies do. API is nothing. if you are ignorant to the facts and have no desire to learn them on your own. then by all means continue to pay more for less. less protection included.

someone said just get the cheap crap and change it ever 3000 and your engine will run forever. well i have a 1987 dodge cummins in the garage right now that had never had its oil changed. EVER. conventional oil crap from the factory in 1987. still runs. not very smooth, but it runs. over 200,000 on it. so, by your logic of running forever we should never change our oil right?

----------

flamming a guy for trying to provide you with HIGH quality oil is not only ignorant but childish. there are many reasons amsoil is not sold in large chains, mostly because it would screw over the end user.
------------

by the way have any of you ever heard of an oil analysis? this tells you if your oil is good, also if your engine is wearing and if so which parts are wearing. blackstone is one of the larger oil analysis places.

do some research and learn. its amazing how many people stop saying ignorant comments when you simply take an hour of your life and figure out what is what. and what is the best investment for your car.
--------------------

i bet some of you are running 91+ octane and your engine only calls for 87.

--------------------

i know you all have access to the internet obviously. so use the thing would you... learn. its great. then you can tell your friends they don't know what they are talking about because you just learned about it.

SINCE YOU HAVE NO BRAIN. ASK FOR THE PARTS DEPARTMENT. DON'T HANG UP WHEN YOU HERE IT SILENT. THAT MEANS YOUR BEING TRANSFERED. WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR SOMEONE SPEAK. THIS WILL BE THE PARTS DEPARTMENT.

ask if they sell amsoil. i would be careful about your flaming to them as they do have caller id. and i wouldn't go about harassing a dealership.

Right didn't say he works for a dealer, he said he is a DEALER, but I would think someone smart enough to run a business like that would understand using the language he does, won't get you very far, as far as anyone believing anything he says.
Good Day,

49,

you are very right my friend.

he did say he is a dealer. not that he works for a dealer.

I wonder though. what kind of dealer doesn't have the first clue about motor oil? thats where i want to buy my $60,000 CTD from.

lol, "i don't know what im talking about but this here oil from Bosnia with this here mopar logo is best stuff there is. i mean it breaks down earlier, it waxes up into a solid and it provides sub par lubrication. but dang its good. i mean im a dealer and i should know right? in "rip you off class" we learned all about oil right after the four-square lesson... you know oil chemistry is a very important part of the four-square technique. while in dealership class, i mean rip you off class, we learned you can't find crappy interest rates without a deep understanding of synthetic lubricants. therefor because i don't know who or what the API is i am qualified to open my mouth and explain, well, SAY, without an explanation, that AMSOIL is not a quality product. so there"

that is really the only thing being said by this "dealer" at this point.

i found this video while trying to find the actual episode from modern marvels. but this was all i could find that was free.

I DO NOT CARE WHAT OIL YOU USE OR DON'T USE.

JUST GETS IRRITATING WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THINGS THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT. ESPECIALLY SO HARSHLY.
research is so easy.

i never knew about oil, only what everyone around me told me, let alone lubrication. now after some research over the past few years i have a pretty good knowledge base.

i don't know who those guys are or who you are.

so im not going to argue anything here. i personally use RP, AMSOIL, and some redline products for different applications.

i think the only real problem in this thread came from the first flammers who started flamming simply because they are uneducated in the field of lubrication.

everyone should do research and actually learn about lubrication, to protect not only their vehicles, but also themselves. getting ripped off is not something anyone wants to do.

so do all yourselves a favor and do some simple research.

i have heard transmission builders say "don't use synthetic fluid in your tranny because its to slippery". ok now, common lubrication knowledge tells us that doesn't even make sense. so why do they say it? well, who knows. being an excellent transmission builder does not automatically qualify you to understand lubrication.

DO RESEARCH. USE WHAT YOU WANT TO USE.

NO ONE IS TELLING ANYONE WHAT TO USE. AND I AM SIMPLY TELLING YOU TO DO RESEARCH SO YOU HAVE A FACT BASED IDEA OF WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT. AND WHAT WILL WORK FOR YOUR APPLICATION

Apparently, you are also one of the clueless people, when it comes to lubricants. You REALLY need to do some research on automatic transmission fluids, friction modifiers in particular.

No, you are not telling people what to use but you are extremely annoying and that's worse. You offer nothing that improves our knowledge of lubricants.

wow, i said nothing of friction modifiers, nor did i comment anything about how atf's work.

only that to say synthetics are "to slippery" is ignorance talking.

i will not sit here and explain to people who would rather be ignorant then spend an hour learning anything.

call me annoying because i say go learn so you don't come on here sounding like a 3 year old retard trying to explain something you have no idea about.

if you choose not to use your own brain and learn, but rather repeat only what you have heard other ignorant people repeat then you are a fool.

and if you feel insulted by my use of the word ignorant then perhaps you should look it up.
-------------

you say that i am offering nothing to further your knowledge. well perhaps you did not read any of the previous members posts? the childish, ignorant rants, and endless miss information is far from anything helpful. BUT I AM THE ANNOYING ONE?

here is the best one i read on here,
amsoil failed api testing.

that is pretty inaccurate, not to mention rather unhelpful.

on and then there was the one that said API was a government agency who automatically tests every oil.

again, does nothing to enhance the knowledge of lubrication. nor is it accurate.

AND YET WITH IGNORANT POST AFTER IGNORANT POST, YOU CALL ME, THE ONE WHO SHOWED WHAT THE API WAS AND THE ONE WHO SUGGESTED PEOPLE NOT RUN THEIR MOUTHS ABOUT THINGS THEY HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT, ANNOYING?

SO WHAT IS SO ANNOYING?

THE FACT THAT I HAVE A BRAIN, AND YOU ARE CLEARLY THE SAME PERSON WHO HAS BEEN POSTING THE USELESS, INACCURATE, AND IGNORANT POSTS.
AND BY THE WAY NONE OF THE INFO POSTED BY THOSE IGNORANT PEOPLE (YOU) HAVE FURTHERED THE KNOWLEDGE OF LUBRICATION FOR ANYONE.

only 2 people can be upset over what i have posted here.

1. people who can not read and cannot do the research i suggested

2. the same ignorant people who would rather run their mouth, even if they are incorrect, then to spend some short time and learn.

if you are coming on a forum to learn... well that speaks for itself. its like going down to the bar at 2 am and asking the local drunks about lubrication. HOW DO I MEAN? you would get the same answers. blah blah blah, this oil doesn't work, this one is the best cause me pa said so. blah blah blah i been using this for 20 years with no problems thats how i know its the best. no ive never looked into an engine and no ive never seen what different oil actually does inside an engine but this is still the best. my cousin jimmy ho joe works down there at the stuper mart and thats what theys carry cause its got to bes the best.

same logic as going to a forum to learn. ideas on where to look sure, but to take what is said as reliable info with no idea who is posting it is what? ignorant.
