Subject: resetting pcm IP: Logged
Message: I just bought 02' 4x4, 4.7l. Went to have it emissions tested and they said computer would not communicate with there's. He told me to drive it and or start it the recomended times for the computer to reset itself. What is the recomended time?
I had a Jeep Cherokee and was a member of a site like this for it. I hope too become a member for my Dakota at this site soon!
Thanks for help,

Message: I don't believe that it will ever "reset" itself. It "learns" for 200-500 miles of driving.
To reset the PCM, disconnect the battery, then hold the ignition key in the start position for 10-15 seconds. Then re-connect the battery.

Message: if the battery is disconnected, what good does holding the key in the start position do? If there is no power to the cpu it won't know the difference

Message: daddio, I haven't heard that one. How do you know it works? If it does work, thats definitely preferable to resetting all the other electrical stuff.
