Message: I used to polish/wax cars on the side. I used all 3M products for buffing and polishing. Nothing works better. They are expensive, but they work.
But.......I found out through trial and error with several waxes that Mequires out shines them all!!
I would micro-polish first with the foam pad and the 3M Micro Polish. Then I would apply the Meguires Liquid Gold and buff it out with a orbital buffer and a soft diaper cloth tied to it. It would look like glass was laid over the paint. I had people with BMW's and Vets paying me $100.00 to $150.00 for my services. I was an amature, but I used only the best products. My products made me look better than most professionals.
I made $500.00 one time for wet sanding (1500grit), buffing, Micro Polishing, and Polishing/waxing a 1998 Trans Am. I never let anyone in on my secret. I just let them think I was that good.

Message: Never tried that. Once I got my hands on the Meguires Liquid Gold, I had no room for improvement. What else can you do to improve a mirror finish with no swirl marks?
I'm sure there are several brands that work as good as Meguires if not better.
In fact, I got the longest lasting protection from Blue Coral, but it didn't shine as good as Meguires and it left swirl marks.

Message: Yeah, the reason I asked is because I have always loved Meguiars products. This is supposedly the newest to their line and I'm assuming if they come out with something new, it's gotta be better than what they already had. So, has anybody tried this new stuff yet?

Message: Hey Wiplash - What kind of orbital buffer did you use? Im looking to buy a good one but not spontaneously combust my wallet either. Ive heard the Milwaukee Polisher or Makitas are good but theyre like $180-250. I got one of those crappy wal*mart buffers right now.

Message: I have used Meguiars produts to detail cars for years. They are very good. I personally prefer the 3 step system from Mothers or the professional formula products from 3M. As Wiplash stated earlier they tend to be a bit on the expensive side though.
My experience with wax has been that the Mothers seems to last the longest (at least here in New England)...

Message: I have used it, LOVE IT! No swirls, on Red anyway, EASY to apply and remove. Clay Bar, Scratch X where needed then NXT and I was happy. NXT gets applied to the entire car, wait 15 min and remove, no white dust. Very happy, up there with Zanio, IMO, but that is a different can of worms. Try it.......

Message: My orbital buffer was a cheapo Sears Craftsman I paid $39.99 for. I only used it to polish the wax that I had just applyied. It wasn't good enough to do real finish work like compounding/buffing and micro polishing. The pads Sears sells for this thing are less than adeqaute also. I used a 100% cotton diaper cloth and tied it to the pad.
I use a Dewalt Professional Variable Speed (Black and Decker) for doing the compunding/buffing and micro-polishing. It cost $199.99 and it is the best variable speed buffer I've ever used. I like the Milwaukee also. In fact the Milwaukee weighs less than the Dewalt and the handle is shaped to where it is more comfortable to hold. I got the Dewalt because it was in stock and I have learned to like it better. The variable speed on the Dewalt works better or at least it works better than the Milwakee that I borrowed from a friend.
If you aren't confident enough to actually do real compounding with a wool pad and compound then go with the 3M Micro Polish and the 3M foam pad. It will remove all the oxidation and swirl marks without the risk of burning through the paint. It won't remove deep scratches, but with time and lots of elbo grease you can get the scratches out by hand rubbing them with rubbing compound. I have tested this out on corners with too much pressure just to see how much heat would build up and there was barley any heat transfered to the paint.
The 3M Micro Polish Glazing compound will leave a gloss so bright it will hurt to look at it in direct sun light. The Meguires Liquid Gold was the only protectant/wax that I found that would not decrease the brilliant shine that the 3M Glaze had just put on it.

Message: MY H3RO,
Maybe I should have woded that differently.....
I wasn't good enough to use the Craftsman orbital polisher for serious finish work like buffing and compounding out scratches because it spins too fast for me. I have to have something that spins very slow so I don't burn through the paint. That's why I bought the Vari-speed Dewalt/BlackNDecker a year later.

Message: My two cents:
Meguires Gold class, best I've used in 20+ yrs of detailing. For the price it cannot be beat.
Mothers works good, too. I swear by thier swill remover. It is excelent.
The 3M products are expensive, but worth it. 3M Perfect It and Imperial hand glaze are my favs.
I agree with Wiplash on Blue Coral, lasts long, but doesn't shine like Gold Class.
I have also used Mothers system, and still use the carnuba cleaner, but wax needs to be applied on 4 week intervals to keep it shinning.
