Message: In conjuntion to insulating my air intake I was going to insulate my fuel line in the engine compartment and the rails. Any negatives to this?

Message: That's an interesting idea, just avoid easily flammable material. Drag racers for years have had "cool cans" to lower line temperature, and there is the old ice bag on the intake manifold trick between runs in the summer. Along the same idea, it has been suggested by some that buying fuel at sunrise is cooler (very slightly) after overnight.

Message: Sam; if you find something suitable, please post back here to let us know, I'm allways looking for even the slightest edge. There's got to be some small foil/insulating wrap out there.
As for fuel temp., it is stored undergroud far enough that it is stable year round, and certainly from day to day.(or afternoon to morning as the case may be)
A cool can would be best, finding a suitable place for it would be the trick.

Message: http://www.mcmaster.com/ Then search "pipe insulation". Check the chart and you can see there are a number of products that can handle engine compartment heat. Some say they resist oils and chemicals in their master catalogue, I don't know about the web site, didn't explore it that much!

Message: Heat reflecting tape from DEI (I think) does a very good job. Expensive stuff though :-(

Message: Check out Jegs, Summit Racing, Pegasus Racing, etc. There are plenty of excellent products designed just for this. You don't even have to take anything apart to apply them. Should take no more than 30 minutes to insulate every fuel line under the hood.
Is it worth it? I doubt it. With EFI, there is a constant flow of fuel through the lines, so vapor lock and fuel boiling are not much of an issue anymore. If you're looking for every last hp on a hot day, go for it. Or if you're working your truck hard in Phoenix in July, it would probably be worthwhile.
