Message: I saw the 05 Dakota at the Houston Auto Show this weekend. While I've seen the pics on previous posts, I usually reserve judgement on new designs until I actually see them. Now that I've seen the 05 I have to say that I don't particularly like it.
The front design is the nastiest part of it. The pics don't do it justice. The front bumper extends out from the grill line by about 6 inches and then curves up into the grill, which is freakin' huge, even by Dodge truck standards. Too much chrome on the front for my tastes.
The other bad part is that the ride height of the 4x4 is the same as the 2wd. Now most would make the 2wd higher to match the 4wd, but not in this case. The side and rear design is not that obnoxious in my opinion.
There may be a possibility that the truck's front lines would soften some if it were in a Sport trim, but I'm not too sure on that one either.
The high point of the show was seeing the new 05 Mustang. It looks so much like the 68-69 Mustangs. Anyone with a woody for muscle car looks should like the styling of this new 'stang.

Message: I have only seen photos of it so far. What I do like about it is the dashboard--very nice and modern. But as for the body style--no. I think it's way too extreme, especially the pronounced curved sections above the wheels. It's also my understanding that wheel flares won't be available for it, and a body-colored mud guard will be built into the front wheel wells, but not the rear. I do hope that for 2005 Dodge moved the front tie-downs out of the floor of the bed and up into the corners, so that they match the position of the rear tie-downs. Overall it's a pretty extreme design--kind of like the Toyota Celica--either you love it or you hate it.

Message: Nick, the curves around the wheel openings actually look more pronounced "in the metal". I'm disappointed in Dodge, as the truck was placed in the back of the display area that they had. The displayed truck also appeared to be a low-line model without any added accessories, like what other manufacturers add to new model displays. It just looked cheap to me.
