Subject: Fog Light switch IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased a used 99 Dakota that did not have fog lights. I have installed an aftermarket light kit, but I wanted to use the stock wiring. I purchased a headlight switch (used) that had the fog light control built in. My problem is, the stock wire that should be for the fog lights has a constant 12 volts! Even with the swith completely removed. What am I missing? Can someone help?

Message: If you need to see the wiring diagram, go to your nearest library and see if they have the manual Ours has all the manuals for every make and model. It's amazing what you can find at the library!!

Message: Thanks for the help, folks - except didyouever - what a jerk. I do have a wiring diagram in a Haynes manual, but it's not a lot of help. The fog lights are bareley mentioned. I think I'm going to try using the aftermarket wiring harness that came with the lights and tie the wires into the factory headlight/foglight switch.

Message: I believe the stock wiring for the fogs is set up for "floating ground" (basically always powered w/ the grounding thru the switch).
I can't remember if i saw that on a post here or a dakotausa.com.
You'll need to isolate the light from ground w/ bushings or something (unless the case is all plastic) then run the ground to the switch)
