Subject: Repairing a Keyed Truck IP: Logged
Message: Yeah so some jerk keyed my dakota last night. Does anybody know how I can repair it? What are the best products? And how much do you think it would cost at a body shop to fix a scratch going from the passenger door to the tailight?
Thanks

Message: That sucks dude. People have no respect anymore. Your best bet is to go to a body shop and get an estimate on how much its going to be. You may be better off getting a couple of them to compare. After that talk with your insurance and pay the deductible to get it fixed. Good luck.

Message: Yeah, I was afraid of that. I was hoping maybe someone knew of a product I could use to try to buff it out. But now I gotta claim insurance, pay the deductible, then wait for the rates to go up.
You're right, people don't have respect anymore thats for sure. I wish the guy would have tried to kick my ass, and not take it out on my truck
Thanks helper

Message: ZoSoAir,
If I was at a bar or something I would have expected something like that. But I was at a family restaurant. So I didn't expect something like that to happen! haha

Message: My 01 Black Motorsport was hit with eggs last October. I had to have the driver door, bedside, hood repainted. It cost $1349.00 and my insurane payed for the repair because it was vandelized. I have not got a rate increase yet.
Good Luck!

Message: If it was me I would NOT put it on my insurance nor tell my
insurance company this happened. I don't know about you but I
don't like my rates going up. Not worth it in the long run.

Message: I was under the impression that any time you file an insurance claim, your rates go up, because you are a higher risk to insure. Even if the damage is in no way your fault. Anyways I guess I'll try to buff it out and use some touch up paint or something.

Message: It takes some time but maybe worth it to you. Take some masking tape and carefully trace both sides of the scratch. Then brush or spray paint the scratch. When you take the tape off just buff and polish. I had luck with it and saved $500.

Message: Well I may be able to help you. I am a painter. First of all are the scratches real deep or just on the surface? Then go out and buy so 3m wet/dry 1500 grit sanding paper. Place the sanding paper in water for about 5 minutes and get your self a sanding block place the sanding paper on the block and using water while you sand work around two inches passed the scratch in every direction. Because you don't want to sand in the same spot to long or you will go threw the clear and paint. If the scratch does not come off you could take to a body shop and have them repaint it or get a touch up paint and fill in the scratch and and then the the above with the sanding paper. After that get your self a compound and glaze buff the afected area.
