Message: Thats what i'm talkin about. Using all of the crap that we would otherwise throw away and using it for fuel. People have these bio-diesel setups in their back yards.
These fuels could even be made from hemp. Alot of the technologies are there. Like I said...its politics.

Message: It's money. Good luck finding alternative fuel sources when the sitting President and Vice President are oil men.
The feds could cut our oil needs by 80% tomorrow if they had the balls to enact legislation but as long as so many in the Cabinet are getting rich off petro dollars and all the lobbying that goes along with it, we'll have to keep paying artificially high prices for gas.

Message: I'm a P.O.L. ( petroleum, oil, and lubricants ) troop in the USAF. Here in Cali, Travis AFB, we run BioDiesel in most of our GOVs ( Government Owned Vehicles ) that used to use DL2, Diesel. There was no conversion steps taken, warm up time on DL2, nothing of the sort. They run fine and the Bio stuff is some clean fuel and $0.90/gallon.

Message: Goverments out to get us theories aside. The hydrogen cell beats out bio-deisal on the clean air, no bad byproduct issue. Both or any other clean, renewable resouce technology should be being pushed to the max. I've noticed ethanol isn't in all the pumps yet like they talked in the 70's. That's available now! Our farmers can produce enough corn to feed the world and fuel it too if the middle guys didn't suck the life out of them. Goverment price regulation keeps them poor to maintain artifically low food prices, that have nothing to do with the cost of production.

Message: The problem with hydrogen cells is that, with current technology, they yield less energy than it takes to produce them. A promising concept, but the science isn't quite there yet.
And the big oil guys aren't stupid, they know that if they don't get on the alternative bandwagon they'll be out of business in about 30 years - ironicly that's one of the reasons they'll continue to bleed us for crude as long as they can.

Message: Ya, that's been the problem with hydrogen production all along, cost. However, dedicated hydroelectric or nuclear power for electrolsis would drive the price down radically. A friend of mine has been producing enough power with windmills in middle Tennessee to run a thousand acre farm and support 6 share cropper famillies and still sell power back to TVA. It really piss's off TVA too. The croppers were thrilled. They all got new doublewides and trucks out of there share. I believe it cost him $50k each for 3 windmills and they payed for themselves in a year. The point being that production cost is heavily driven by volume in the power buisness. Someone has to step up and invest to make it happen. Where's Edison when you need him
