A few years ago ('96 or '97?), I read about a company that was going to start manufacturing electronicly tinted windows. Basically, they would be normal windows when no voltage was applied to them, but if a charge was applied, they could get as dark as 95% tint. Does anyone know if there are companies making this product yet, and if so, what ones? This would be great for putting on the truck.

I think one of the upper end Benz's has this feature... it's VERY expensive. Pretty
sure you will not this technology on "regular" vehicles for awhile due to the cost

You have to watch how dark a tint you put on.Most states do not allow tinting. Others allow only tint that is so dark. If you are getting it for keeping out heat, don't worry about how dark it is. Look more for heat rejection numbers. My wife's car has pretty dark windows. Much more than my truck. But my tint has better heat rejection than her's. It's also important when traveling from one state to another. I got a ticket in Ohio for the tint in the wife's car. It is legal here in Arizona.

Kenny, if you had an Arizona tag on your wife's car, Ohio cannot write you a ticket for that. I was a Miami Florida policeman.

Kenny, I don't think that OH window tint ticket would have stood up in a court. They figure you won't fight it since you are out of state. Anyone know how that works?

I haven't done a lot of research yet, but I know that there are things in the works. Try a search on Electrochromic Windows. This is what you are wanting. There is also a thing called Photochromic too. I think that the Photochromic is more like how the rear view mirrors work in some of our trucks. The brighter the headlights behind us the darker the rear view mirror. I don't know about side windows, but they are talking about this type of thing for sun roofs. Hope this helps.

I know how it works...they cannot write a ticket for your windows if you are from out of state, plain and simple. All you had to do was show up for court and the Judge would have to throw it out. Now, speeding, seat belts, all that crap, yes they can, but if you have equipment legal in your state, another state cannot ticket you for it.

I got pulled over because my front passenger and driver side windows were too dark, the po-po said. I told him it was legal because I got it tinted at 50% and the guy told me that it was legal. What is legal for the front two windows in California?

Hey Kenny the Highway patrol here in Ohio will ticket you for anything! They have nothing better to do than bother people. Sometimes I think they make up the laws as they go!!!!!!!!
