Message: I agree with your assessment. Interior looks great. Looks like they've finally caught on to the cool Jap truck interiors. Outside is butt ugly. My 2002 will be my last Dakota.

I do like the Interior but don't like the exterior either. I guess it goes along with the Durango Re-design that I also hate!

Message: I kind of like it. It's the next step. I remember in '97 that I liked the appearance of my then-'92 better. Give D-C credit for bold changes, unlike other manufacturers. The Dakota generations are all distinctive; pretty neat in today's traffic. It makes you enjoy what you've got, and still look to the future. Personally, if I can swing it financially, I'll keep my modded '01 4.7 5-spd RC for fun (30K miles/year now), and get a Hemi automatic someday. I can wait for the "great one" to be made. The Ram never appealed to me. It's just too big and takes up a 2-car garage by itself. The grille looks better proportioned to the front end on the '05 Dak. I'm curious where the 4.7 lost 5hp and the 4.7HO lost 15hp? You would think just the opposite with more room for free-flow exhaust. Maybe the EPA muscle-flexing is having an effect.

Message: I never planned on trading my 03 RC anyway. I usually put 150000 on a truck. I suspect this one will see 300,000 going by the current crop of way to big butt ugly trucks. I would like to stuff a Hemi in mine someday.

Message: Hey waiter! Give me a 6spd!...
I'll ignore the butt-ugly outside and buy one if they will stick a Hemi with a 6spd on the inside with a RC or CC instead of a damn QC.
I know they will never do that.

Message: I don't think the new Dakotas look that bad, but previous generations look a lot better. I only wish they would have more configurations, like a regular cab, sport and SXT models, etc... The 6-spd manual tranny sounds nice though. A Hemi would be great too.

Message: Perhaps a diesel...at least the hemi..what was dodge thinking. Not even the 5.9 is made anymore. Its ugly and i see alot of characteristics from chevy and ford in that truck too. I plan on keeping mine for along time and eventually transplanting a hemi or diesel in when the time comes.
Unless i can afford a Cummins Ram of course.

Message: Looks like crap. I know a lot of guys that either have or have had Daks and they all, me included, hate the new design. The last thing we need is another soccer mom truck, a smaller version of the Ram for mom. I think Dodge is going to lose a lot of sales on this one. We'll see what happens. I guess I'll drive my current 2 Daks until the wheels fall off!

Message: I don't know, they may have a good strategy there. Women are the fastest growing segment of buyers in the truck and SUV market. The Dakota has never done that well in sales compared to other trucks including the Ram. Men usually go for the full size trucks. Women and teenagers usually go for the small trucks. The Dakota is neither. Maybe they will increase their sales by making the Dakota more appealing to women. That would also mean NO 6SPD!

Message: What I meant was, I was agreeing with deerridge about keeping my current Dak and doing the "hot rod swap" of Hemi and 6-speed, which is possible now, if you have the bucks. That's dreaming large to think D-C would make a Hemi 6-speed Dak, but hey, the SRT-10 lives...right?

I sure hope they make an extended cab version. I can't deal with a QC. I never liked RC's too much, but I could live with a RC as long as they made it about 6" longer than the gen3's RC. There's just not enough leg room on the Gen2 and Gen3 RC.

Message: It'll be like just about every other new design that comes out. Some will bitch, some will swoon, then people will see it in person and the people who are Dak lovers will grow to like the new style. The people who aren't die hard Dak fans will look elsewhere. It happens with nearly every ground-up redesign of a truck.
Some hated the new Silverado cause they thought it was still conservative, some hated the F150 cause it looked like a jelly bean, and you could go on and on. But in the end the people who like Daks will still buy a new one once they get used to it.

Message: I never thought I would like the gen3. I still don't like the smiley face the front end resembles. I always like how it looked from the side and the back. I can't say that I like anything about the gen4. I hope the looks grow on me. Otherwise, my 2000r/t might be my last Dakota.
