Subject: Now new filters for tranny fluid change? IP: Logged
Message: Stopped by ez-lube today, wanted to flush and fill my tranny fluid, inquired whether they had the unique additional spin on filter for my 4.7 dak and they insisted the filters don't need to changed for 100,000 miles, I told them I would prefer they did so my brand new clean fluid wasnt ruining through old dirty filters but they said it was not needed, can anyone confirm this?

Message: Change the filters! Any time the tranny fluid is changed the filters should be changed also. The reason they didn't want to change the filters is because they would have to pull the pan to get access to the filters. They can flush the fluid without taking off the pan, but they have to drop the pan to replace the filters. The 45RFE trans for the 4.7 also has an RTV gasket which makes the job a bit messier for them. They have to scrape off all the old RTV, apply new sealer and wait for it to setup before they can fill the trans back up.
Your right, who wants to run clean fluid through dirty filters. It's like taking a shower and putting on yesterdays underwear. You might be clean but your still wearing the same funky underwear as you were before the shower.

Message: Depending on ur mileage, u might not need to flush your tranny. But thats totally up to u. I have 53K Miles on my Dakota and just changed mine out 2 weeks ago to Amsoil ATF+. Its VERY easy to do. And im not sure if u know it or not, but if u have the 45RFE Tranny, it takes two filters.

Message: My opinion,is if the pan is down, change the filters... It doesn't seem like a question. I believe that DSW has it right though, they didn't want to drop the pan.
I changed to AMSOil last fall in my 02 QC. Just dropped the pan, changed filters, and re-filled. I'm not sure if I trust a flush by a minimum wage Jiffy-Lube person, much less the flush process itself.
I wasn't to concerned with mixing of the fluids. I got about 60% of the fluid by just dropping the pan.
I haven't had any problems with the AMSOil fluid. It runs like it did before, no better, no worse,,, no milage change either.

Message: You might just want to go to a shop that specializes in
transmissions instead of a 10 minute get in and out quick kind
of place. You'd be lucky to not get any stripped nuts and bolts
out of the deal or misaligned filter rings etc.
