Subject: Need advice on '98 Dak IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking at a '98 V6 2WD SLT with manual trans. The owner is asking $7000, it has 66K miles is in good shape, I've looked at NADA and Kelley and that seems about right. But after reading about some of the Daks problems (especially the ball joints) I'm wondering if I really want spend the $$ on a truck with such a mixed reputation. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

Message: If the seller is willing, have it checked out by a mechanic or an alignment shop. They can usually find bad ball joints pretty quick. I find it hard to believe that a 98 that has never had ball joints done wouldn't need them. My 97 SLT 4x4 needed lowers after 3200 miles.
If he's not willing to let you have it checked out, then walk away unless you can live with spending another $800-$1200 when you buy it.
