Subject: Lug Nuts / Center Caps IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 Dakota with 15x7 rims and I purchased new 16x8 rims/tires.
My question is this ...Will my lugnuts and center caps on the factory 15x7 rims work with the factory 16x8 rims?

Message: Are you sure about the center caps? I parked beside a Durango today with 16x8 rims and the center caps looked identical to my center caps on my 15x7 rims?

Message: It really depends, I know the center caps from the 15x8 wheels work. There are a couple versions of the 15x7 wheels since you have 2002 I assume they are the newer ones and the center caps should work because they look identical. Best way to find out is to test them when you have the new 16x8 wheels.

Message: Did they make more than one style 15x8 wheel ? My 15x8s don't have removable center caps; but the 15x7s I run in the winter do.

Message: The reason I am asking about this is I purchased a complete set of tires/rims off ebay. Near perfect condition...only 10,000 miles and they will arrive tomorrow, but the guy I bought them from shipped the lugs/center caps separate and they are about 3 days behind.
I am going to have the tires/rims put on tomorrow and just put my lugs/center caps on and when I get the ones I purchased put them on my old ones and then sell the set.
The center cap on my 15x7 is 2 1/2 inches. They look identical to the ones on 16x8 rims.
Should I worry about odometer/speedometer calibration or not? My truck is still under warranty for another year or 15,000 miles. Say when I drive 1000 miles actually will the odometer read that I drove more or less than that.
My new tire size will be 265 70 16 instead of currently 235 75 15????

Message: They may have had different 15x8 wheels. I got a set of 16x8 for my 2000 Dakota and the center caps and lug nuts fit perfectly from my stock 15x8 and the center caps are about 2.5" so those center caps should fit fine.
Your odometer would be off by about 6%. Because your diameter will be going from about 28.9" to about 30.6" So when you are cruising down the highway and your speedometer reads 60mph you are going closer to 63.5-64mph. I believe the dealer can program it if its one of the diameters on stock.

Message: Andrew & Thomas - if your 15" wheels have removable center caps they are probably 15x7.

Message: I still have them in the garage right now. The rims I bought had the center caps so I have 4 15x7 rims with 235/75 15 tires with only 20K miles on them for sale. I live in Southwest Virginia right on the KY/TN border. Email me with any questions and I'll be glad to email you some pics of the rims/tires. They are in great shape no visible defects/scratches/dents etc. The tires are Goodyear Wrangler RTS.
