Subject: Spark problems when warm IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1995 3.9L 2WD. It starts fine when cold and runs great. After about a 1/2 hour it shuts down and has no spark. Let it cool for 2 hours or so and it runs O.K. again. I changed the ignition coil and checked the known ground splice wiring problem. Anyone with any ideas?

Message: i had a 88 F150 that did that.i cant for the life of me think of what the part was called.it sat inside the distributor next to the rotor.it runs when cold, but when it warms the part expands and looses contnuity.looked like a giant resistor.less than $20 it was.

Message: There is nothing in the distributor that seems could cause this. I checked the codes and I got a "EGR System" code once and now all I get is "Memory standby power lost". Could the EGR valve cause this? Any ideas what to check for with that other code?

Message: a bad egr valve can cause stalling, but not the no spark problem. the unknown name in the distributor might be a reticulator pickup coil.the problem you are having could either be in the PCM or the ignition control box or possibly a bad cam or crank sensor. a reostat is a variable voltage resistor that controls voltage. a good example is in the hand held reostats that are used to control slot cars.

Message: my truck doesn't have a reostat or a pickup coil in the distributor. Does anyone know about the "memory standby power lost" code the truck is giving me? The truck seems to run longer every time I start it. Is there any way to test the sensors? I am an Electronics tech but I don't know how this stuff works. Can a meter give me any good indications? All wire's check O.K.

Message: If getting warm is the problem I can't find it. Sprayed all sensors and modules with electronics "freeze it" to try to isolate the problem No Luck. Since I reset the computer the last time the truck runs a even shorter time. I checked the output of the Coil for spark and none. I guess it must be the computer????
