i recently went on a 200 mile trip with my 97 Dakota 2wd 3.9 5spd....mods are intense stage 2, JET 2, 180 stat, autolight plugs....ive got 71000 miles on it....

on the way back, the check enging light went on, and the vehicles idle was slightly more erratic than normal idle....the gas was suspect, since it wasnt the normal place i get gas.....i have a locking cap, but ive had it with no problems since 97....and i dont think i can check the computer codes, because this is a Gen 3 truck....

please help!

If you think it's just the gas, finish that tank and pour some fuel injector cleaner in it, then reset the PCM.

Otherwise check the aircleaner and oyxygen sensors. When was the last time you checked your plugs and wires? Could be them too.

If you have not changed your o2 sensor before, and you have 71000 miles on it,I would replace it anyway. I think they recomend changing them at 60,000 miles. There may or may not be anything wrong with it,but for the cost it would be worth it.
