What is the fuel mileage, horsepower, and torque of the 97-04 Doddge Dakota v-6 and v-8 engines? I am also talking four wheel drive. Also what gears come in these trucks. Im talking just the extended cab dakotas too and not the quad cabs with the 360. If anyone could help me please I wanna get one just wondering what im getting?

The Dakota is a gas hog no matter how you do the math. The 4.7L V8 gets as good a gas mileage as the V6, and has lots more horsepower, so don't skimp and get the smaller engines. The 4.7L is supposed to get 235hp. I'm not sure what mine is cranking out, but it is plenty to spin the rear tires on my 4x4 quadcab.

The 4.7L is the newest engine design in the lineup, yet it is still way behind the technology curve when compared to Ford's Triton engines. I have over 50K on my 4.7L and it has been a champion engine so far. Once I replace the ball joints on this turkey, it might actually be a keeper...was half tempted to trade it in on a Nissan Titan while the trade in value was still high enough...but I love this truck so I'll do whatever it takes to keep her on the road.

Asta la pasta!

If fuel mileage is an issue, do some homework on www.dodge.com. Click on new trucks/ Dakota/ specifications/ capacities & weights. A regular cab 4x2 manual weighs 3707 lb., while a quad cab 4x4 SLT auto weighs 4500 lb. If you don't use the 4x4 feature much, you might consider a 4x2 with limited slip rear axle, and reward yourself at the gas pump. A 4.7 5-spd 3:92 is a blast to drive anyway.

My 03 RC 4.7 Awd gets' 16 all around and 18 plus on the road. Thats better than my RC Chevy ever did. THe v6 gets about the same mpg. No v-8 four well drive I know of does much better. If
your looking for econmy v-8 4x4's ain't it.
