Message: I don't care if regular cabs don't sell well, there should still be a regular cab option for those who won't a light compact truck for a reasonible price. Isn't that the whole point of compact or mid size trucks? Offering a package that everybody can afford is extremely important. Eliminating the regular cab option is contradicting the whole point of mini trucks. Not having a regular cab option is going to boost the base price of the truck right up there with the regular cab Ram. Completely defeats the purpose of a small truck IMO.
Personally I just want a fast truck.
And BTW, I would rather the truck look like the ugly new durangos then the way they turned out. Way to go DC.
And further more the whole compact truck segment sucks these days. The Colorado/Canyons look like @ss plus have a torque lacking 5 banger for the top engine. The Rangers are long in the tooth and offer a 4.0 thats only available in extended cabs. There's just nothing to choose from anymore. I'm not even going to coment on the imports. Mini truckin' is going to hell in a hand basket.

Message: I actually like the tail lights but the front is terrible, looks like its trying to be a luxury vehicly, not the sporty gen3. I had never owned a Chrysler before this truck (ford guy) but dont want full sized and the renger is too small. I bought my dak on looks alone. So far, Im not sure, after dealing with ball joints and warped front rotors. But as far as looks and power (after 3.55 to 4.11 gear swap) Im happy. But I have to say I never had the warrenty work done with the Fords like this. Im not going to get into a Ford/Dodge war cuz Im not bashing the DAK only relating my experiences.

Message: I can't believe you guys are bashing a vehicle that you know nothing about! They haven't even hit dealerships yet for christ's sake. Go test drive one and then make your comments. You guys sound like a bunch of prejudice whiners. If your so upset with the new truck then go buy a ford and have fun fixing the mother%*&@!# every 6,000 miles. But don't complain about it just because your standards are different from the many people who work for dodge. These people know what they're doing. There's probably a good reason why they use the ungreased ball joints. And unless you are a mechanichal engineer don't question dodge's decisions until you drive the truck. I am an owner of a 2001 Quad cab and it is a very solid truck and I love the way it looks, and its got great power. But I don't see any thing wrong with the way the new one looks. I like it. And I intend to put one in my drivway. And to the people who are so worried about the looks of the 05' your are forgeting the reason why the truck is there in the fist place...Function, to get from point a to point b. your so caught up on the looks that your missing out on a possibly great truck. To the people who are complaining you sound like my 2 year old whining daughter. You sound like a bunch of pussy's thank god you don't live in Texas cause here you'd get eaten alive by us hillbillies. So don't talk trash unless you have a good reason. your prejudism is the reason why great vehicles get discontinued. Long live DODGE (I doubt I that I will ever buy any other brand. Every dodge that I have ever owned has never even needed a warranty. Because I change oil and filter every so often, I use fuel injector cleaner every month or so. And I don't treat my truck like it's a #$*@ing Ferrari. Actually I do have a lead foot but without abusing my baby. Enuff said

Message: I was a mechanical engineer before I started working on webpages and teaching. And the only reason they did what they did to the 3rd gens, was to cut corners and save money. Nuff said.
I own a 2nd gen and a 3rd gen Dakota. I love both of my trucks and will never get rid of either. When the 3rd gens first came out I didnt like the styling either but eventually it grew on me. The reason for the major redesign is so that they can use the same parts from more than one vehicle in assembly lines. Everyone knows how it works. It's just cheaper for the manufacturer. The original Durango was made from Dakota parts. Now the new Dakota will be made of Durango parts.
Granted it does look like @ss right now, but if it is functionally better than the 3rd gens then maybe we'll get use to the new look as well.
BTW, is this '05 going to be the 4th gen Dak? or does the frame, chassis, and engine change in 2000-2001 Dakotas count as the 4th gen?

Message: Jeff,
Where do I start?
1. With the last name "Lemons" I really hope that you're not a used car salesman.
2. Learn the difference between "your" and "you're". Thank you.
3. You say "These people know what they're doing. There's probably a good reason why they use the ungreased ball joints."
Yes, that good reason is called cutting costs, not good engineering. Please do a search for "ball joint replacement" and you will see. BTW, they're not "ungreased" ball joints.
4. Please stop making up words like "prejudism".
5. You say "You sound like a bunch of pussy's"
Apart from that being the possessive (not plural) form of the word, what exactly does a pussy sound like?
6. You say "And to the people who are so worried about the looks of the 05' your are forgeting the reason why the truck is there in the fist place...Function, to get from point a to point b. your so caught up on the looks that your missing out on a possibly great truck"
Okay, your atrocious spelling aside, you can't honestly say that looks don't count. I own a Gen 3, and part of the decision for purchasing it was that it was the best looking truck out there. Check out a few posts on the "Custom Style" board and tell me that looks don't count.
7. You say "Every dodge that I have ever owned has never even needed a warranty. Because I change oil and filter every so often"
Is that the recommended oil change interval for our trucks? Every so often?
8. You say "So don't talk trash unless you have a good reason."
What's your reason?
9. This is too easy- I give up!

Message: The 4.7 liter engine is good, but not enough to haul an R/T around like the 360.
You think that's bad though? Wait until you try one of the new dakotas
that are even heavier with the underpowered 4.7.
The 05 Dakota is another truck on the street as far as I'm concerned.
I would look for a used low mile R/T, or quadcab with the 5.9
if you want anything that is worth your while
And Jeff lemmon kiss my @ss your toothless Texan. I gess all that dirt blowing in your face just makes you go back inside in your 10x22 FT trailer and log on the website a B!tch about us not like the butt ugly Dakota!!!!
