Message: just a quick question regarding the factory gears in 2004 dakota. now , they come with 3.55 standard i guess and i think there is an option of 3.92. after reading your guys advice about getting lower gears is it better to get the 3.92 ones instead? also what does 3.92 do for me? please brief me on this before the truck gets made with 3.55 and you guys tell me to get the 3.92. just a little confused and all. i want performance if possible. i dont want to change them after the truck is built. thanks a ton.

Message: The difference is a very few hundred rpm's in overdrive, and depending on how much highway driving, and at what speed, little or no impact on your mileage. The 3.92's will improve acceleration a bit. Nothing huge, but maybe 3-4 tenths in a quarter mile run. The 3.55's will lower engine speed a bit relative to 3.92's at any vehicle speed.

Message: by the way i never tow anything so does getting the 3.55 make more sense? would there be any notice in power with the 3.92 if i just drive normally and do no racing? but in general will i regret the 3.55? thanks

Message: The 3.91s might give you better MPG than the 3.55s because it takes less effort to get your truck moving. I'll post my results soon as I just switched to these gears myself and changed my open wheel differential to limited slip.

Message: You guys suck! The 3.92's get better mileage on the highway if you go 55 if you go 70+ then it will be worse! and Mark is dumb, or has fat fingers, because the gears are 3.92, not 3.91!

Chrysler: 8.25 in. ring gear and 8.375 in. ring gear, 3.91 ratio,
ring and pinion set
Wow I don't see the number 2 anywhere in that ratio.
