Message: Anyone have any tricks to make replacing u-joints easier. I allways have a problem with the needle bearings coming out of place when putting in the new u-joints. I have a 1988 Dakota 4wd and I am going to do the front drive shaft. thanks

Message: Make sure there is enough grease to hold the bearings in place.
Try to work with the open end of the bearing cup facing up until you get the yoke in place.
Once you get the first cup into place try to keep the yoke at least half way in it while getting the second cup into place.
Hope this makes sense.
It also helps to have a second pair of hands.
I've had about 16 vehicles over the years, and my Dakota is the fist one I ever had to replace a U-joint on.

Message: yep makes sense thanks for the advice. This is the first u-joint I have has to replace on this truck but after 300,000 km I am not going to complain. I will be installing a u-joint that can be greased not going to use sealed ones that came from the factory so hopefully I wont have to do this again.
