Message: It should not turn unless your hubs are not unlocking. Crawl under your truck(make sure it is park and the emergency is on) and turn your front drive shaft by hand. It should turn freely if your not in 4wd. If it doesent try backing up at least two tire rotations and check again.

Message: Thanks, i think i found my problem. My front drive shaft is turning when not in 4wd. I put her in neutral and pushed her while a friend was looking at it and it turns. So it is not unlocking, what kinda damage can this do??

Message: It will basically just wear out your bearings, seals and u-joints quicker(very expensive to fix) and decrease your gas mileage alot. Maybe contact a dealer and double check if it is suspose to turing or not. You may have some kind of full-time set up on it.It would be good to have it checked out. I have an 1988 dakota and the drive shaft does not turn when in 2wd.
