Subject: And yet another shock question!! IP: Logged
Message: Sorry Guys,
I realize this question has been "beat to death" here and I really did search the archives to try and find an answer to it but... no luck.
Anyway, heres the question:
I need to replace the OEM shocks on my dak. I would like to keep the same stock hieght(a little higher is o.k.) but I would like a better ride and handling. My driving habits are as follows: 95% on-road, 5% off-road.
No Towing.
Occasionally will haul 500-1000 lbs.
I'm not looking for the most expensive or the cheapest, just a good shock. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
TIA
vr

Message: Shocks will no change your ride height, no matter which one you buy.
I do about the same driving mix as you do. I have Rancho RS5000's. The ride is a little stiffer than stock. But much better control off road and on rough pavement. A vast improvement for a small outlay.

Message: I would also recomend the Rancho RS500's. Great shock for the price.
I have been recomended to stay away from the Rancho RSX the self adjusting. I was told they are really firm for daily driving.
I have the rancho 9000's and love them.
I think you would be happy with any hydrolic shock over the stock gas charged. There are several companies that make a great shock.
I would say go to your 4x4 shop and ask what they recomend and don't spend more than what the RS5000's go for.
